4 Software SmartGUI 1 Introduction In the current age of progress the demand for security technology is rising. Surveillance systems in banks, industry or even in private households are used more and more. Dallmeier Electronic has set new standards with digital recording technology. The numerous advantages of digital recording, such as excellent picture quality, live picture transmission via ISDN, fast picture search, video failure identification, flawless pictures even after long periods of operation etc. speak for themselves. Using SmartGUI as the connecting link the simple and intuitive control of the PView surveillance software is made possible. This manual provides a step by step description of the functionality and operation of SmartGUI. 1.1 Conventions To improve the clarity of this manual, important sections are designated by the Warning symbol below. Read these sections and the text next to the symbol carefully. They contain information, which will assist you in working with SmartGUI. Words in bold letters and italics generally depict menu commands or buttons. 1.2 Liability Neither the author nor Dallmeier electronic GmbH will accept any responsibility whatsoever for damage of any kind which may be incurred through the use of this manual or the SmartGUI software. 4

5 1.3 System Requirements To be able to fully utilise all the functions of SmartGUI the following minimum system requirements should be met: Operating System: Windows 98/ ME/ NT (from Service Pack 4) 2000/ XP CPU: Working Memory: Disk Space: IBM compatible from 233 MHz min. 64 MB min. 1 GB frei Please note that the programme will not run under the operating system Windows 95. The recommended screen resolution is 1024 x 768 with a colour depth of at least 16 Bit. If lower values are used for screen resolution and colour depth, a faultless functioning cannot be guaranteed. 1.4 Installing SmartGUI Prior to installation ensure that there is adequate space available on the harddisk. The programme requires approximately 25 MB disk space. Deactivate all running programmes (including virus protection software and screen savers), to avoid possible conflicts during the installation of SmartGUI. Insert the SmartGUI CD-Rom in the CD-Rom drive. Click the Start button in the task bar and select Run. In the following dialogue box select the corresponding drive name for your CD-ROM drive with the file SmartGUI_Installer.exe. Follow the instructions in the menu windows. 5

6 Software SmartGUI 1.5 Starting SmartGUI for the first time Ensure that the Dongle supplied is connected to the parallel port of your PC correctly. Before being able to use SmartGUI you must first of all enter your license number in the dialogue box Unlocking Hardlock-Dongle. The license number is supplied with the dongle. Confirm the entry with OK. The license number is only required when starting SmartGUI for the first time. 6

7 2 Integration and Interaction SmartGUI is a special Server Software, which controls the communication between a browser and PView. PView is the central control instrument for one or more Dallmeier Recorder(s). It enables recorder configuration via network plus requests for current data and pictures. In addition to functions such as live picture transmission, backup, virtual rounds and synchronisation, PView offers the user numerous request and configuration options. The interfaces created with the SmartGUI Editor are started in the browser. Whenever a button is clicked to activate a function, the parameters are transmitted to SmartGUI. SmartGUI interprets the parameters and transmits them to PView, where the corresponding actions are executed. Interfaces created with SmartGUI Editor are started by means of a browserbased call-up (local host). When a function is activated by pressing a button on the graphical interface, the parameters are sent to SmartGUI. SmartGUI interprets the parameters and forwards them to PView, where the respective actions are carried out. SmartGUI also receives alarm notifications from PGuard, which are obtained from the connected Dallmeier recorders. The parameters of the alarm notifications are forwarded from SmartGUI to the graphical interfaces. Incoming alarms are displayed on the graphical interface. When the camera for the respective alarm is represented as a button on the interface, the incoming alarm is shown by the button flashing. 7

8 Software SmartGUI SmartGUI PView PGuard SmartGUIEditor Interfaces To be able to utilise the advantages of PView control via graphic interface the following must be observed when installing the system: 1. PView, SmartGUI and the interfaces created using SmartGUIEditor must be installed on a computer. 2. Start the SmartGUI program and select the directory in which the files exported from SmartGUIEditor are located. 3. Start the graphical interfaces by clicking on the GUI button. 4. Start PView and log yourself in. 5. Start PGuard and log yourself in. Now you can conveniently control PView using the browser interface. 8

9 3 Operating SmartGUI 3.1 Starting SmartGUI There are two different ways to open the SmartGUI software: Navigate to the Start menu, then click on Programs/Dallmeier/SmartGUI/ SmartGUI or double click the programme icon on your desktop. After each start SmartGUI will search for the starting page (index.html) of the graphic interfaces created with the SmartGUI Editor. When starting SmartGUI for the first time the path to this directory in SmartGUI is not yet defined. The following message will be displayed. Clicking on OK opens the Find folder Windows dialog, in which you select the path to the directory using the graphical interface. Clicking on Cancel allows you to start SmartGUI without explicitly specifying a path. If the path already has been specified, however was changed before restarting the SmartGUI, the software indicates that the file index.html was not found with the following dialog. In both cases confirm by clicking OK. The Windows dialogue box Search folder will be opened. Select the relevant directory and confirm with OK. 9

10 Software SmartGUI 3.2 Settings After the start, the main screen of the SmartGUI is shown. Here, you can configure various settings and trigger actions. If the directory with the graphical interfaces has changed, you can open the Find folder Windows dialog by clicking on the Path button. Point to the folder in which the files exported from SmartGUIEditor are located. Once the path is correctly specified, you can activate the Start GUI automatically option. Doing so opens a browser window (in which the graphical interface is integrated) immediately after starting the SmartGUI. If, on the other hand, the extended graphical interface is to be manually started, click on the GUI button. The PView program also can be opened when starting the SmartGUI by activating the Start PView automatically option. The path to the PView program file must be specified for this. Click on the Path button next to the PView path text field to specify the path to PView II. In the Open file Windows dialog, select the PView II program file, or PViewME.exe. In the lower section of the main window, there are two fields in which additional information is shown. When there is a connection to PView (i.e. PView II is opened), a confirmation as such will appear in the lower left recessed field. When PGuard signals one or more alarms, a confirmation as such will appear in the lower right recessed field. 3.3 Quit program Click on the Close button to close SmartGUI. 10
