Fields of Experience My scientific research covers the area of Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Turbulence and CFD with emphasis in the following topics: Numerical methods for the solution of systems of algebraic equations. Computational solution of parabolic, elliptic and hyperbolic differential equations with finite differences, finite elements and boundary integral/elements methods. Computational fluid mechanics and heat transfer: Navier- Stokes equations, discrete vortex methods, grid generation, and transition. Study of steady/unsteady nonlinear inviscid waves using constant vorticity approach, Kelvin - Helmholtz stability analysis, breaking mechanisms and criteria. Interaction between vortex and boundary layer flow. Two phase flow, development of waves between two stratified viscous fluids, estimation of wave characteristics.
Numerical application of Boundary Integral/Elements Methods in the study of suspension rheology in Stokes flow. Lattice Boltzmann Methods (LBM) in Fluid Mechanics including two phase flows and magneto-hydrodynamic flows. Discrete Velocity Methods (DVM) in rarefied flows. Applications - Expertise Extensive experience in various operating systems AIX 3, HP-UX, SUN OS, Linux, DOS, Windows 95/98, Mac OS. Extensive knowledge of programming languages such as Fortran, C, Python, MPI. Extensive knowledge of various commercial software and applications (Mathematica, Matlab, etc.). Teaching Experience Numerical Analysis and Computational Fluid Mechanics (1994, 1995). I was teaching assistant in the above course to third year undergraduate students of the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. This course includes an introduction to applied numerical analysis and basic computational methods in fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
