Additional duties included curriculum and laboratory development, faculty advisor for ASME, advising students, and general service to the college. Industrial Experience: Project Engineer / Project Manager Advanced Marine Enterprises (now CSC Advanced Marine), Arlington, Virginia September 1990 to March 1994 Provided engineering support services to the Naval Sea Systems Command office that managed construction of amphibious assault ships for the U.S. Navy. Responsibilities included analyzing design problems, interpreting specifications, recommending design solutions, and attending numerous sea trial and test events. Generated and presented numerous technical reports and briefings for high-ranking Naval personnel. Design Engineer / Group Leader Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth, Virginia July 1985 to September 1990 Served as a design engineer and group leader in the surface mechanical branch that was responsible for maintenance and upgrade of U.S. Navy surface ships. Duties included system design, analysis, and testing, as well as waterfront support of repair and upgrade activities. Worked on numerous shipboard systems including catapults, arresting gear, weapons handling, aircraft elevators, and steering. Gained extensive experience in troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of hydraulic and other weight handling systems as well as detailed knowledge of shop and trade practices.
