Page 1 of 8 Professional Master of Education Subject Declaration Form IMPORTANT This declaration form should be returned to the PME provider(s) to which you have applied or the Postgraduate Applications Centre (PAC). (More details on the last page of this form.) This Subject Declaration Form allows you to match your degree (and other qualifications if applicable) against the Teaching Council s curricular teaching subject requirements. You must meet the requirements for at least one curricular subject in order to be considered for registration as a teacher, having completed your Professional Master of Education (PME). A declaration form should be completed online, printed and signed by persons applying for entry to the PME. You should complete a subject declaration form for each subject for which you are seeking Teaching Council registration. The requirements for the curricular subject are set out on page 2. For details of all other curricular subjects click here Applicants should note that declarations made on this form will be considered by the PME provider(s) when determining offers of places on the PME. Any material errors or misleading declarations made on this form may result in the withdrawal by the PME provider of (an offer of) a place or other such action as the PME provider determines appropriate. If you are offered a place on the PME, and in accordance with the permission granted by you below, this declaration form will be forwarded to the Teaching Council, the professional standards body for teaching in Ireland, who will advise if you meet the requirements for registration set out in the Teaching Council registration regulations. Based on this declaration form and your transcripts of undergraduate examination results, the Teaching Council will confirm if, following successful completion of the PME, you will be eligible to register as a teacher and which curricular subject(s) will be recorded on the Register of Teachers.

Page 2 of 8 In order to meet the registration requirements set down in the Teaching Council [Registration] Regulations in respect of the curricular subject of, an applicant must meet all of the following criteria: 1 (a) Applicants must hold a degree-level qualification, with studied up to and including third-year level or higher (or modular equivalent). (b) The qualifying degree must be equivalent to at least Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and with a minimum pass 1 result in all examinations pertinent to the subject of. (c) The qualifying degree must carry at least 180 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) credits (or equivalent) with the specific study of comprising at least 60 ECTS credits (or equivalent) and with not less than 10 ECTS credits (or equivalent) studied at third-year level or higher (or modular equivalent). 2 The study of during the degree must show that the holder has acquired sufficient knowledge, skills and understanding to teach the syllabus 2 to the highest level in postprimary education (see www.curriculumonline.ie). To meet this requirement the degree must include the study of all of the following essential areas to a minimum of 40 ECTS credits: Essential areas of study (a) Soil Science (b) Crop Production Science and/or Animal Production Science (c) Plant Science (d) Animal Science. The remaining 20 ECTS credits (or equivalent) may be in the above essential areas of study or can be drawn from the optional areas: Optional areas of study (e) Environmental Sciences (f) Food Science and Technology. 3 Applicants must also have completed a programme of post-primary initial teacher education (age range 12-18 years) carrying a minimum of 120 ECTS credits (or equivalent) 3. The programme should include a methodology module(s) on the teaching of a Science-based subject carrying a minimum of 5 ECTS credits (or equivalent) 4. Science (Junior Cycle) An applicant who meets the registration criteria for will also be deemed to have acquired the competency to teach the Junior Cycle curricular subject Science if he/she has studied a minimum of 10 ECTS credits (or equivalent) in Chemistry, a minimum of 10 ECTS credits (or equivalent) in Biology and a minimum of 10 ECTS credits (or equivalent) in Physics. 1 which includes pass by compensation. 2 as approved by the Minister for Education and Skills, and published by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA). 3 Applicants who have commenced a programme of initial teacher education prior to 01/09/2014 carrying less than 120 ECTS credits may be exempted from this requirement at the Council s discretion. 4 Applicants who have completed a specialist concurrent degree in must meet all of the requirements as detailed above. This course should be equivalent to a minimum of 240 ECTS credits.
