1 MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT) This is a credit-based qualification. These regulations should not be read in isolation. It is important that you read them in conjunction with the Academic Regulations (Taught Courses). M BAT 1 DEGREE NAME M BAT 1.1 The University offers the Master of Business Administration (Technology Management), referred to as the MBA (Technology Management). Holders of this qualification are permitted to use the letters MBA (Tech Mgmt) (Open) after their names. If you qualify for this degree on or before 31 December 2016, you may qualify under either of the structures described in regulations M-BAT 1.2, M-BAT 1.3, M-BAT 3.1 to M-BAT 6.1 (qualification code F03) or the structure described in regulations M-BAT 1.2, M-BAT 1.3, M- BAT 7.1 to M-BAT 10.1 (qualification code F69) If you qualify for this degree after 31 December 2016, you must qualify under the structure described in regulations M-BAT 1.2, M-BAT 1.3, M-BAT 7.1 to M-BAT 10.1 (qualification code F69) M BAT 1.2 If you have included the 60- credit graduate entry module as fulfilling the Stage I requirement of the degree and you are awarded either (i) a distinction grade for a minimum of 90 credits or (ii) a distinction grade for a minimum of 60 credits and a merit grade for a further 60 credits from the modules required for the degree, you will be eligible for the award of the degree with distinction. M BAT 1.3 If you have included the 60- credit graduate entry module as fulfilling the Stage I requirement of the degree and you are awarded either (i) a distinction grade for 30 credits and a merit grade for a minimum of another 90 credits or (ii) a merit grade for a minimum of 120 credits from the modules required for the degree, you will be eligible for the award of the degree with merit. M BAT 2 REGISTRATION M BAT 2.1 To register as a student, you must adhere to registration regulations in the Academic Regulations (Taught Courses) and show evidence of suitable preparation for postgraduate study. The minimum entrance requirement is: (a) a degree awarded with honours from a UK university or other recognised degree-awarding body (b) a Diploma in Management Studies awarded by a UK university or other recognised awarding body (c) a qualification regarded by the University as being equivalent to an honours degree (d) the Open University Professional Diploma in Management.

2 M BAT 2.2 If you do not satisfy regulation M BAT 2.1 but can satisfy the Senate that your qualifications or other evidence of competence are an adequate preparation for the programme of study, your application may, in certain circumstances, be considered. M BAT 2.3 You must have a minimum of three years of management experience by the start date of your first module. M BAT 2.4 To be awarded the degree, you must declare it as an intended qualification and ensure that your credit is linked to it. M BAT 3 CREDIT REQUIREMENT If you qualify for this degree up to and including 31 December 2016, you may choose to qualify under either of the structures described in regulations M-BAT 3.1 to 6.1 ( qualification code F03) or M-BAT 7.1 to M-BAT 10.1 (qualification code F69) M BAT 3.1 To be awarded the degree, you must obtain 180 credits by successfully completing modules taken from the MBA (Technology Management) profile (unless regulations M BAT 3.2, M BAT 3.3, M BAT 3.4 or M BAT 3.5 apply to you) and must satisfy the other requirements and regulations. (a) Stage I may be either the Professional Diploma in Management or the specified graduate entry module. You must satisfactorily complete Stage I before commencing Stage II. (b) Stage II comprises three compulsory 30-credit modules and a further 30 credits from modules chosen from a range of options. (If you made a claim for credit transfer towards the degree and this was received by the University on or before 31 December 2007, regulations M BAT 3.2 and M BAT 3.3 apply to you.) M BAT 3.2 If you satisfy Stage I of the degree by completing the specified graduate entry route, the Senate may permit you to qualify for the degree if you have 180 credits, of which not less than 90 are from successfully completed specified modules and not more than 90 are transferred credit. M BAT 3.3 If you satisfy Stage I of the degree by completing the Professional Diploma in which not less than 60 are from successfully completed specified modules and not more than 60 are transferred credit. (If you made a claim for credit transfer towards the degree and this was received by the University on 1 January 2008 or later, regulations M BAT 3.4 and M BAT 3.5 apply to you.) M BAT 3.4 If you satisfy Stage I of the degree by completing the specified graduate entry route, the Senate may permit you to qualify for the degree if you have 180 credits, of which not less than 150 are from successfully completed specified modules and not more than 30 are transferred credit. M BAT 3.5 If you satisfy Stage I of the degree by completing the Professional Diploma in which not less than 90 are from successfully completed specified modules and not more than 30 are transferred credit. If you have an award of transferred credit towards the Professional Diploma in Management, regulation M BAT 4.7 applies to you. M BAT 3.6 The credit for this qualification must include from Open University modules a minimum amount of credit that meets the University s unique study regulations, that minimum amount is 60 credits.

3 M BAT 4 CREDIT TRANSFER M BAT 4.1 The credit transfer scheme for the degree is governed by the Academic Regulations (Taught Courses). (If your claim for credit transfer towards the degree was received by the University on or before 31 December 2007, regulations M BAT 4.2, M BAT 4.3 and M BAT 4.4 apply to you.) M BAT 4.2 Any award of transferred credit towards Stage I of the MBA (Technology Management) must take the form of module exemption giving exemption from the specified graduate entry module. (If you satisfy the requirements of Stage I by completing the Professional Diploma in Management, it may be based in part on an award of transferred credit in accordance with the appropriate diploma regulations.) M BAT 4.3 Any award of transferred credit towards Stage II of the MBA (Technology Management) may take the form of module exemption giving exemption from one or more specified Stage II modules, and/or general credit exemption. M BAT 4.4 The maximum award of transferred credit towards Stage II of the MBA (Technology Management) is 60 credits (half the credit requirement of Stage II), unless you have been awarded exemption from Stage I in its entirety, in which case the maximum award towards Stage II is 30 credits. (If you satisfy the requirements of Stage I by completing the Professional Diploma in Management, the maximum award of transferred credit towards Stage II is 60 credits, even when the Professional Diploma in Management has been based in part on an award of transferred credit.) (If your claim for credit transfer towards the degree was received by the University on 1 January 2008 or later, regulations M BAT 4.5, M BAT 4.6 and M BAT 4.7 apply to you.) M BAT 4.5 Any award of transferred credit towards the degree must take the form of module exemption but is not permitted against the project module. M BAT 4.6 The maximum award of transferred credit is 30 credits. M BAT 4.7 If you satisfy the requirements of Stage I of the degree by completing the Professional Diploma in Management and if that diploma contained an award of transferred credit, you are not permitted to benefit from any further award of transferred credit towards the requirements of the degree. M BAT 4.8 Awards of transferred credit beyond the normally permitted maximum may exceptionally be made for certain approved combinations of study at another institution. Such awards must be agreed by the Qualifications Committee. M BAT 5 PROGRESS TOWARDS THE DEGREE M BAT 5.1 In order to actively continue your studies, you must satisfy the assignment and examination requirements and make satisfactory progress as specified for the qualification. If you fail to satisfy the assignment and examination requirements of the qualification for which you are registered or fail to make satisfactory progress, you will cease to be registered for the qualification and will have no more right to continue your studies than a new applicant. M BAT 5.2 The credit required from modules or any permitted credit transfer for the MBA (Technology Management) must be obtained during a period not exceeding 10 years. Exceptions to this must be approved by the Masters Programme Committee. Modules do not need to be studied consecutively. M BAT You will only be permitted to register twice for any particular module without having achieved a pass in it (that is, if you fail the module, withdraw from it, or are awarded a resit result).

4 M BAT The award of the qualification will be subject to an overall maximum of two resits, retakes of modules or withdrawals from a module (e.g. one resit and one withdrawal, or two resits). M BAT 5.3 Credit from particular modules may cease to be countable towards the MBA (Technology Management) at a specified point in time after their final presentation. M BAT 6 PROJECT MODULE M BAT 6.1 You will normally be required to have successfully completed the two compulsory modules before registration for the compulsory project module. Any exception to this requirement will be at the discretion of the Masters Programme Committee. If you qualify for this degree after 31 December 2016, you must qualify under the structure described in regulations M-BAT 7.1 to M-BAT 10.1 (qualification code F69) M BAT 7.1 To be awarded the degree, you must obtain 180 credits by successfully completing modules taken from the MBA (Technology Management) profile (unless regulations M BAT 7.2 or M BAT 7.3 apply to you) and must satisfy the other requirements and regulations. (a) Stage I may be either the Professional Diploma in Management or the specified graduate entry module. You must satisfactorily complete Stage I before commencing Stage II. (b) Stage II comprises three compulsory 30-credit modules, a compulsory 15-credit module and a further 15 credits from modules chosen from a range of options. M BAT 7.2 If you satisfy Stage I of the degree by completing the specified graduate entry route, the Senate may permit you to qualify for the degree if you have 180 credits, of which not less than 165 are from successfully completed specified modules and not more than 15 are transferred credit. M BAT 7.3 If you satisfy Stage I of the degree by completing the Professional Diploma in which not less than 105 are from successfully completed specified modules and not more than 15 are transferred credit. If you have an award of transferred credit towards the Professional Diploma in Management, regulation M BAT 8.7 applies to you. M BAT 7.4 The credit for this qualification must include from Open University modules a minimum amount of credit that meets the conditions of General Qualification Regulation GQD 3.4; that minimum amount is 60 credits. M BAT 8 CREDIT TRANSFER M BAT 8.1 The credit transfer scheme for the degree is governed by the Academic Regulations (Taught Courses). M BAT 8.2 Any award of transferred credit towards the structure given in M-BAT 7.1 to10.1 will take the form of general credit exemption against the specified option module in Stage II. There is no credit transfer permitted against any of the compulsory modules in this structure. M BAT 8.3 The maximum award of transferred credit is 15 credits. M BAT 8.4 If you satisfy the requirements of Stage I of the degree by completing the Professional Diploma in Management and if that diploma contained an award of transferred credit, you are not permitted to benefit from any further award of transferred credit towards the requirements of the degree. M BAT 8.5 Awards of transferred credit beyond the normally permitted maximum may exceptionally be made for certain approved combinations of study at another institution. Such awards must be agreed by the Qualifications Committee.

5 M BAT 9 PROGRESS TOWARDS THE DEGREE M BAT 9.1 In order to actively continue your studies, you must satisfy the assignment and examination requirements and make satisfactory progress as specified for the qualification.
