1 The purpose of this guide is to aid you through the online application process. You can save the application and come back to it at a later stage, should you need to. Once you have submitted a fully completed application form including your uploaded documentation you will receive an from our admissions team with a link to PayPal in order to pay your application fee. Please ensure that you make payment immediately in order to avoid any delay with your application. Please ensure you read this guide carefully before completing the application form. Whilst filling out this application, you will need the following documents to hand: your undergraduate degree your Leaving Certificate any other post-graduate qualifications (NFQ level 8 or above) your academic or professional reference (in cases where you do not have a pre-existing reference, please use the reference template. Please refer to this guide throughout the completion of this online application as it will save you time and ensure that you are completing all sections accurately. Page Title: PERSONAL DETAILS 1
2 Address: Please ensure to provide the address that they will be residing in whilst studying on the programme.if this is not known to the applicant at application stage please include current address, but informthe College immediately if the address changes. County: Please use the following format in this field: Examples: Kildare, Cork, Waterford, Mayo (as opposed to Co Kildare, Co Cork, Co Waterford, CoMayo) Date of Birth: Please ensure that your Date of Birth appears as it should i.e. in European format. Example: 3 January 1984 should appear as 03/01/1984. Depending on the browser you use thiscould appear in American format and therefore appear as 01/03/1984. Page Title: PRIOR EDUCATION 2
3 To input details of your undergraduate degree: Click Add Please review carefully and use the following format when inputting details: External Institution: Type the first few letters or abbreviation of the undergraduate College you attended, it should appear in the drop down, when you see it, select it from the dropdown. All major Colleges and Universities should be listed. If the Institution you attended is not listed select Not Listed on the drop down (start typing it and it should then appear). Type the full name of the institution into the comments field at the bottom of the page. Attended From: Use the date format 01/09/XXXX Attended To: Use the date format 01/06/XXXX You do not need to know the exact start and end date (e.g. 22/09/XXXX), the 1st of the month and year you commenced and finished is sufficient). Degree Type: Select the degree type from the dropdown list. You should select the option with the NFQ level. For your undergraduate degree in almost all cases this will be Honours Bachelor Degree - NFQ Level 8. If you did not complete an undergraduate degree and went straight into a Masters degree, NFQ level 9, please select 'Masters Degree - NFQ level 9'. The minimum entry requirement for the PME programme is a NFQ level 8 degree Degree: Type the full title of your degree, please do not use abbreviations. 3
4 Examples: Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Business, Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Multimedia. Awarding Body: The awarding body is listed on your College transcript. Examples of awarding bodies include: HETAC, National University of Ireland, Trinity College Dublin,Dublin Institute of Technology. In cases where the awarding body and the External Institution attended are the same, please keep the naming consistent. Example: External Institution: Dublin City University/ Awarding Body: Dublin City University. Where the External Institution and awarding body differ please enter as it appears on your transcript. Example: External Institution: Blanchardstown Institute of Technology/ Awarding Body: QQI(formerly HETAC) Major: Enter the subject(s) / field of study here as it appears on your transcript. Example: Information Management, Business Studies, English & Geography, Commerce, Communications, Social Science with French. There is a 30 character maximum for this field. In cases where the field of study is longer than 30characters, please abbreviate as appropriate and enter title of the full field of study in the comments field at the bottom of the page. Example: Social and Political Studies with French. 4
5 Honours: This is the final grade that was awarded. Ensure to write your final grade in the format below: 1st 2nd class hons (this is reserved only for older degrees where a division is not specified) rd Pass Unclassified Please use the above format and not a variation of it eg First as opposed to 1st (as an example of a wrong format). Note for those in the final year of their degree: Please enter the most up to date result you have received i.e. summer result from last year. This will need to be updated once your final result has been released. Comment: Only fill this in where further clarification for any of the above fields is necessary, e.g.: To confirm something that you needed to abbreviate such as the full title of your degree s field of study degree (where more than 30 characters). The institution you attended, if it is not listed in the drop-down list. Click Save Additional Third Level qualifications: If you have completed any further postgraduate studies (NFQ level 8 or above), once you have clicked Save, click Add and repeat the process above for each qualification. Once you have added your undergraduate degree details and any additional third level qualifications, click Next. 5
6 Page Title: POST PRIMARY EDUCATION DETAILS: Leaving Exam Type: Select what is appropriate to you from the drop down list. IB is the 'International Baccalaureate'. Secondary School Name: Enter the name of secondary school you attended (the school with which you completed your final examination (such as your Leaving Certificate). Secondary School From: Use the date format 01/09/XXXX. Secondary School To: Use the date format 01/06/XXXX. You do not need to know the exact start and end date (e.g. 22/09/XXXX), the 1 of the month and year you commenced and finished is sufficient). Please select English from the Subject List: Select English English Level: Select Honours or Ordinary as appropriate. English Grade: Type in the grade you were awarded. Examples: A2, B1,C3. Complete the above steps for Irish and Maths Once completed click Next. Please refer to the entry requirements on the Hibernia College website. 6
7 Page Title: EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Enter the details of your current or most recent employment. Note you will have the opportunity to include any teaching experience you have on the next page of this form. Page Title: PRIOR TEACHING EXPERIENCE Include details here of any teaching experience you have to date, including dates/duration. This can be voluntary or observation experience within a school. Page Title: HEALTH DISABILITY NEEDS OR SPECIFIC LEARNING NEEDS Completion of this section on the application form is optional. Applicants who have a specific learning need, a health/medical condition or disability that they feel may impact on their progress through the programme, it should be disclosed here. This will not prejudice or influence an application in any way. This information can be used to, for example, reinforce an application made for assignment submission extensions, a deferral, or to adapt learning materials to better meet your needs. The College will need supporting documentation from a medical consultant or an educational psychologist for this. Disability Description and Facilities Required. If you have nothing to disclose here, enter none in both fields Personal Statement Please state within 400 words (per question) why you think yourself suitable for the programme and the profession. Note that you can type this in a Word document and copy and paste it here should you wish. Have you attended a Hibernia College open day/webinar? 8 Page Title: REQUIRED DOCUMENT UPLOAD You must upload the following documentation in order to submit your application: Your undergraduate degree transcript and any higher award you may hold for example a masters qualification (please note this is the transcript of each year of your degree containing the modules studied, your final result etc. We do not require the parchment received at graduation nor can this be used in lieu of the transcript) Your Leaving Certificate or equivalent Your academic or professional reference (in cases where you do not have a pre-existing reference, please use the reference template). This should be completed by the relevant person and uploaded along with the rest of your documents. Please note that the reference must be completed by, for example; a lecturer, tutor, employer/former employer etc. This must be in a professional capacity. It cannot be completed by someone who knows you on a personal level, for example; a friend, family member or colleague. Please also note that pre-existing references that are not on company headed paper or authenticated properly with a company stamp will not be accepted. The insertion of a company logo by the candidate in place of an authentic company stamp will not be accepted. Note for those in the final year of their degree: Please upload the transcripts for the years already completed Note for those repeating their Leaving cert Irish only: Please upload your current Leaving certificate results and update once the repeat results have been released in August. 8
