Merchant Marine Division Market developement The seaborne trade and worldwide Merchant Marine fleet have grown substantially since the oil crises and shipping crisis in the 1970 s. The seaborne trade is expected to continue to grow in the coming years as a result of continuous globalization and the expected growth in developing countries such as Brazil, India, Russia and China (BRIC). The shipbuilding capacity has grown substantially the past decade, the global annual delivery rate of new ships was at its peak in 2011. Although it is expected that the seaborne trade will grow, it is expected that the annual delivery rate of new ships will slightly decline and stabilize at a lower level, caused by an oversupply of tonnage due to the high delivery rate of new ships in 2010 / 2011 / 2012 not matching the growth of seaborne trade. There is however some factors that indicate that there will be built quite a numbers of new ships in spite of oversupply of tonnage as new ships are more efficient ant environmental friendly than old and dirty ships.
