BOM Management - General Concept There is not only one view to a product; Different disciplines will look differently to products and their describing information A summary of these views are : As-Specified As-Designed As-to-be-Manufactured As-Planned As-Manufactured As not all views are used by the same disciplines, not all views are therefore created, maintained and used within the same systems. Page 13

BOM Management - Business Requirements The As-Designed (ebom) and As-to-be-Manufactured (mbom) views do not necessarily have to be the same. Main reasons for ebom / mbom differences are: Removal of (sub) assemblies that do not exist in the physical world. Addition of non-design items which are needed for manufacturing the product Therefore : Manufacturing Engineers must be able edit the mbom for restructuring purposes (Manufacturing Kits). Manufacturing Engineers must be able edit the mbom to add unique manufacturing content (nondesign items, Consumables) etc'. mbom updates should not modify the ebom structure. Manufacturing Engineers should control the mbom update process. Changes must be accorded, recorded and maintained Page 15
Chosen Solution for Customer X According to the Best Practices from the field ebom and mbom shall be separate item structures Manufacturing Engineers shall have read privileges on the ebom and write privileges on the mbom Modifications to the ebom and mbom structures shall be done using Change Procedures Page 16
