Jeff Truman (cont d) Page 2 of 12 Truman Services Recent Projects Ritchie Housing 25 Ritchie St, Toronto Service: Lightweight Steel Structural Design ***SPECIALTY SERVICE*** In mid 2008 we were approached to assist in the design and construction review of proprietary cold formed steel components for a new build condominium project. Existing proprietary components and project shop drawings for the cold formed steel system were reviewed for conformance with CSA design code and the Ontario Building Code. Modifications were made to the original cold formed steel design to meet design requirements, including the addition of another storey, to a total 6 stories. TSI developed the light weight steel design from first principles, to address shortcomings in the manufacturer supplied documentation. To date, there have been no site instructions required for the lightweight steel. Construction is ongoing and expected to be completed late 2009. MTCC 1235 Brewery Lofts 90 Sumach St, Toronto Service: Exterior Wall & Balcony Repairs Potentially extensive deterioration at the exposed concrete slab edges was observed during the Reserve Fund Study. A subsequent leakage investigation revealed poor quality slab edge repairs undertaken during the building s conversion to a condominium in 1990. A repair programme was developed to address the slab edges, and other cladding repairs were considered slightly ahead of the Reserve Plan requirements in order to take advantage of economies of scale. The all steel balconies were removed from the building to facilitate concrete repairs. The original balcony coatings were flaking and peeling and were recoated with a high performance paint system that is compatible with the original galvanized finish and to reduce future maintenance costs. The final contract cost was in line with our budgeted amounts, and the project remains on budget and on schedule. Work is presently being completed in two phases: South and West elevation repairs are to take place in 2008, and North and East Elevation repairs are to take place in 2009. Total project value: $850,000 YCC 49 The Corinthian 2550 Pharmacy Ave, Toronto Service: Plumbing Systems Investigation & Cladding/Energy We were originally approached to review building plumbing problems related to poor cold water supply complaints by the residents. The building was not originally designed to accommodate in-suite washing machines and dishwashers, and had multiple problems with in-suite crossover due to poor installations and poor quality plumbing fixtures. TSI developed the plumbing base building standards and an in-suite repair programme to ensure all equipment was properly installed. TSI then worked with the Board to develop a repair programme to accommodate resident demands in keeping with the reserve plan. Part of our work with the reserve plan included an energy audit and cladding assessment. The energy audit identified measures to reduce building water and energy consumption, while accommodating the increased demand on the electrical and plumbing systems. The cladding assessment identified masonry repair methods to reduce moisture penetration to the interior, which was creating occupant comfort and deterioration issues. The repair method saved the corporation over $750,000 compared to recladding the building, providing ample reserve fund funds to implement the required plumbing upgrades. FrancoForce Cross-Canada Tour Service: Project Management, Structural Design FrancoForce was produced by Productions Coccinelle, a New Brunswick based, touring entertainment company, and traveled across Canada in the Summer of 2008 to celebrate the 400 th anniversary of the

Jeff Truman (cont d) Page 3 of 12 founding of Quebec. The show featured French Canadian entertainers, artists, builders and stars of the Canadian Francophonie and took place inside three geodesic domes purchased for this tour. Starting in St. Boniface, Manitoba, TSI assisted FrancoForce obtain the required local building permits and coordinated with the local municipal officials on site access, safety, layout, power, etc. TSI holds local professional engineering designations in Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario, and worked with local designers as required to meet the local Code requirements. TSI developed a design model of the geodesic structure in 3D to ensure each site s wind and life safety regulations were met. All shows started as scheduled, after satisfying the local officials. Prince Hotel 900 York Mills Road, Toronto Service: Parking Garage Repairs Recently acquired by Westin, the Prince Hotel has long been a Toronto landmark for luxury hotels. Interior and exterior repairs were planned by the new owners to rebrand the property and reinvigorate its appearance. To meet the overall business case objectives, repairs to the parking garage needed to be cost effective in order to accommodate other planned repairs. TSI developed a comprehensive repair programme based on our site review that included concrete repairs to both suspended parking decks. The concrete parking decks were extensively deteriorated due to poor maintenance of the existing waterproofing membrane. Localized through slab repairs were performed over about 85% of the top surface reinforcing steel. These repairs were executed via hydrodemolition to reduce noise and accommodate the Prince s busy conference schedule. To reduce project costs, and extend the life of the repair, TSI recommended re-alkalization of the concrete decks. Although among the highest levels of chloride contamination seen by TSI, this treatment brought corrosion potentials down to passive from very high risk, which is expected to significantly reduce future repair costs. TSI s approach saved the Owner over $300,000 compared with complete parking deck replacement. Wasaga Dome Wasaga Beach, Ontario Service: Structural Design Part of the new beach front redevelopment in this bustling Ontario summer getaway town, Wasaga Dome is designed to house Canada s first circus-themed niteclub. Hosting Zero Gravity Circus Ignite Night, Wasaga Dome is the centre piece of the new Wasaga Beach entertainment district, and also hosts movie nights, Second City comedy nights and nite club events. TSI worked with the site architect and civil engineer to develop the required foundation layout for the permanent dome installation, which included 70 large concrete anchor bases set on site by a laser. TSI analysed the dome to suit the site conditions directly on the shore of Lake Huron s Georgian Bay provided the required permit drawings, and ensured the construction met the design requirements.
