1 The University of Akron Main Campus Biennium 1 July June Electrical Infrastructure Loop $2,400,000 Scope: Replace center campus deteriorated 4,160 volt cable and duct bank with 23,000 volt loop and duct bank. In addition, provide alternate feeds to Exchange Street and South Hall Student Residences creating a secondary loop. Replace deteriorated transformers in Bierce Library & Crouse Hall. Justification: The cable has reached its expected life and could fail at any time. A failure will cause power outage to over one million GSF on campus. Transformers have exceeded their expected useful life. Scale: With this investment, the electrical infrastructure on campus would be an 7 on a scale of ASEC Exterior Façade Phase II 3 Roof 4 Building Demolitions 5 Underground Vaults/ Mechanical Ph II- Design 6 Polsky Exterior Façade and $1,800,000 Scope: Restoration of remaining façade elevations. Justification: The brick veneer of this 45 year old facility is falling onto pedestrian walkways and electrical equipment. The loss of the brick veneer has compromised the interior finishes. $811,000 Scope: Lincoln Bldg $186K, Roadway $320K, JAR $225K, Ayer $80k roof replacements. Justification: Lincoln Bldg roof was replaced in We have had several leaks to repair over the years. Roadway Bldg roof has had several repairs over the past few years. The past two winters we have lost sections of the roof due to wind. In addition, we need to protect our investment in the building with current and past renovations. Ayer Hall roof has had several repairs over the past few years. $3,700,000 Scope: Demolition of Grant Hi- Rise and Townhouses $1.4M and Gallucci Hall $1.4M, Wonder Bread $900k. Justification: Facilities are physically and functionally obsolete. $350,000 Scope: Complete replacement of deteriorating utility vaults on campus. Justification: Structural integrity has been compromised and campus utilities and heating are at risk of failure. In addition, due to structural issues, vaults are unsafe for campus employees to enter to perform required maintenance as well as support vehicular traffic. $1,775,000 Scope: Restoration of terra cotta façade $1.2M, painting and repair of canopy, landscaping, signage $575K. Justification: Water infiltration is causing damage to interior finishes and accelerating terra cotta damage.

In addition, the University experiences intermittent outages, low performance and excessive time troubleshooting. $2,200,000 Scope: Lab renovations in Central Hower and Schrank Hall North for associate and bachelor degree programs in Construction/Engineering Technology and Corrosion Engineering (NCERCAMP). Justification: Additional labs are needed to accommodate these expanding programs. $500,000 Scope: Kolbe and Auburn #3 elevator replacements. Justification: Kolbe elevator is original to the building (1955) and is in dire need of modernization. Most parts are obsolete. This is the main elevator for Kolbe Hall. Auburn #3 elevator was constructed in 1967 and is in need of modernization. It is the only elevator in the North tower. Failure to schedule these elevator upgrades in advance could result in service interruption for several months. $250,000 Scope: Replace fire alarm systems in Olin and Central Hower. Justification: These are the oldest systems on campus and replacement parts are difficult to find. They have exceeded their useful life. Age: They are all over 25 years old. Justification: Whitby Hall air handler has exceeded its useful life and is in need of replacement as it has been repaired several times and continues to fail. In addition, the unit is undersized for current building usage. The roof has reached its expected life as it was replaced 29 years ago. $1,000,000 Scope: Renovate facility to accommodate student internships to include distance learning and living quarters. Justification: Existing facility is physically/functionally obsolete. $6,275,000 Scope: Consolidation of space. Renovate space in Central Hower for the Ayer Hall occupants $4M.
