Flexible Study Arrangements at SMS As an international student, Sydney Medical School (SMS) recognizes that experience in your home country is beneficial for you. The flexible study arrangement allows you to complete one of your Stage 3 Core OR Specialty Blocks and Pre-Internship (PrInt) in a country in your region of origin. Of course, like all SMS students, you can also choose to spend your Elective term overseas. This document outlines the flexible study arrangements and helps you understand the requirements, guidelines and application procedures. This will assist you in planning for your overseas The FAQs found here will answer most, if not all, of your questions so take a moment to go through them. This document is to be used only as a guideline for international opportunities available at the Sydney Medical Program. Please refer to Compass for current updates or contact the staff or faculty members, listed on page 8, for more information on specific programs. We would be delighted to hear from you! These guidelines must be read in conjunction with Sydney Medical School s Flexible Study Arrangements for International Students Provisions 2014. Checklist for International Students This brief checklist allows you to see at a glance some of the requirements that need to be met before you can participate in a flexible study arrangement. Make sure you visit Compass to see the complete requirements of each Block. Only students who are enrolled as International at the time of their placement can complete an overseas * Students whose status has changed to Local due to being granted permanent residency are not eligible. Placements must be in a country in their region of origin. You can complete either one Specialty or one Core Block, not both. Approval must be obtained no less than 12 weeks prior to the commencement of the relevant term. Students are required to attend an orientation briefing prior to their overseas Placements with relatives will not be approved. This includes placements where there are any relatives working with or without any connection to the Supervising Practitioner.
