3 CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION AND INTERPRETATION 1.1 Introduction These Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science Course Regulations apply to all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science Degree at the University of Notre Dame Australia. These Regulations should be read in conjunction with the General University Regulations and the School of Arts and Sciences Regulations. 1.2 Interpretation The terms included in these Regulations have the meanings as defined in the University s General Regulations and the School of Arts & Sciences Regulations. 1.3 Alterations made to Course Regulations Unless otherwise specified, when amendments are made to the structure, content or academic requirements of the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science degree, the amendments will automatically apply to all students enrolling for the first time in the degree in the year immediately following the adoption of the amendments. 1.4 Applicability to Campuses of the University The Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science degree is available on the Sydney campus only. 3
4 CHAPTER 2: ENTRY CRITERIA 2. Requirements for Entry Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science The standard entry criteria as detailed in the General Regulations apply to the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science course, except where they differ to, or in addition to, the following conditions Applicants will be required to demonstrate a suitable degree of mature life experience including: i. self awareness; ii. a capacity to relate to others; and iii. an understanding of ethical behaviour School leavers must demonstrate they meet these requirements and may be admitted only on the approval of the Dean Successful applicants are required to provide evidence of a National Police Clearance The National Police Clearance documentation must be submitted to the School of Arts and Sciences by the end of the first semester of enrolment. 4
5 CHAPTER 3: DEGREE REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Course Structure Compulsory units The structure of this degree, including all compulsory and elective units, is attached in the Appendices (A & B) Elective units There are no elective units for this course Majors/Double Majors There are no majors/double majors permitted with the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science Degree Minors There are no minors available within the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science Degree Specialisations There are no specialisations available within the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science Degree. 3.2 Practicum or Internship requirements Students are required to undertake practical placements for academic credit within this degree, as indicated in the course structure Students must have passed all pre-clinical Counselling units prior to the commencement of a clinical practicum A student must disclose to the Dean of the School any physical or mental health issue that has the potential to impact upon the student s capacity to undertake a clinical placement or to complete it at the assigned agency. Failure to disclose may result in cancellation of enrolment or disciplinary action being taken against the student Upon receipt of such information, the Dean of the School will determine what (if any) steps need to be taken to appropriately balance the rights, interests and obligations of all affected parties, including (but not limited to) the student concerned, the University and the agency. 3.3 Approved unit substitutions substitution may only be approved by the Dean (or their delegate). 3.4 Course duration Standard Duration (i) The standard duration of the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science is 3 years of full time study. (ii) Students are able to enrol in the degree on a part-time basis. (iii) The maximum period of time within which a student is permitted to complete the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science degree is 8 years from the date on which they were first accepted into the course by the University Accelerated Duration An accelerated mode is not available for the Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science degree. 3.5 Graduation A minimum of 700 credit points drawn from the approved course structure is required in order for a student to graduate with the degree Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science. A minimum of 900 credit points drawn from the approved course structure is required in order for a student to graduate with the degree Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science (Honours). 5
6 3.6 Honours The Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science is available as a Bachelor of Counselling and Behavioural Science (Honours). Honours is available within the Behavioural Science program only.
