Product features Mainframe 2.0 CA Deliver has adopted key Mainframe 2.0 features designed to enable your staff to quickly install and configure and to support more effective ongoing maintenance. CA Mainframe Software Manager: CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM) automates CA Deliver installation and maintenance and removes SMP/E complexities. The Software Acquisition Service enables you to easily move product installation packages and maintenance from CA Support Online directly to your mainframe environment and prepare them for installation. The Software Installation Service standardizes CA Deliver installation, which includes a new, streamlined Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) method that allows CA Deliver to be installed using standard utilities. This service also provides standardized SMP/E product installation and maintenance via APARs and PTFs, and simplifies SMP/E processing through an intuitive graphical user interface and an intelligent Installation Wizard. The Software Deployment Service enables you to easily deploy CA Deliver in your mainframe environment. The Software Configuration Service enables you to more effectively configure CA Deliver if it has been acquired, installed, maintained and deployed using CA MSM. Installation Verification Program (IVP) and Execution Verification Program (EVP): As part of qualification for inclusion in the set of CA Technologies mainframe products released every May, CA Deliver has passed stringent tests performed through the IVP and EVP to find and resolve interoperability problems prior to release. These programs are an extension of our ongoing interoperability certification initiative launched in May 2009. Best Practices guide: This guide provides information on CA Deliver installation, initial configuration and deployment to shorten the learning curve for staff that is responsible for the installation and management of this product. Health Checker: The Mainframe 2.0 Health Checker provides CA Deliver Health Checks that execute under the IBM Health Checker for z/os. The CA Deliver Health Checker is a valuable tool to identify potential problems before they impact your environment by: Insuring that the HDETAIL option is only activated when necessary. Activating the History Detail HDETAIL log option should only be used if clients need to track reports from creation to printed to bursting to end user delivery, so a health check will be issued to warn against the additional CPU and DASD space overhead it introduces. Providing an important operational health check that monitors application work queues to avoid potential processing delays that could impact business operations. 2
Serviceability: In order to provide additional levels of information and consistency for problem determination, CA Deliver has adopted the following serviceability enhancements: Product description information: CA Deliver provides a Product Description module that contains the product name, version/release number and other useful information. To determine which CA Technologies products are installed within each z/os environment, you can access and report on this module using the CA Common Services EXAMINE facility. Module identification: Each object deck comprising CA Deliver contains a copyright and module identifier to assist with error analysis and debugging. Common dump title formatting: When applicable, CA Deliver recovery routines use standard formatting of dump titles to assist with problem identification. Integration with CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation System State Manager: CA Deliver integrates directly with CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation (CA OPS/MVS) to indicate programmatically its state and readiness in your environment. What s new in CA Deliver r11.7 Higher user thresholds: Increase user access by maximizing the above-the-line storage and database-related sharing control areas. By taking advantage of these facilities user access can be increased by as much as 5 times. Expanded report selection criteria: Adding flexibility for business demand, CA Deliver can now select reports by DDname, Form, Writer, Class, or Destination. Key capabilities CA Deliver provides: Pre/post spool processing: CA Deliver operates in either real-time, pre-spool mode or post-spool mode. The real-time mode bypasses the JES spool, saving time and reducing JES I/O and spool space. Reports can optionally be processed from the JES spool in a post-spool mode, which is desirable when reports are generated remotely (NJE). Reduced storage: Close integration with CA View allows reports to be written to the repository and allows report bundling to occur directly from the CA View database, which eliminates routing through JES. This is accomplished without the need for JCL changes to your existing jobs. Improved batch: CA Deliver routes required reports to all the appropriate destinations with the proper SYSOUT attributes attached. This eliminates the need to create report data sets and the required batch processing step to print these reports to one or more SYSOUT class, form or destination. Report management: CA Deliver provides a single point of management for all of your report capture, distribution, archival distribution management and recipient access activities without changing JCL or starting and stopping the system tasks. With CA Deliver you get a highly effective tool that automates time-consuming manual tasks and helps lower your document delivery costs. 3
Backward compatibility: CA Deliver r11.7 via CA View r11.7 will be able to read prior versions of report data found on disk and tape. This will greatly simplify conversion to release r11.7 by eliminating the need for the MASS conversions, allowing you to install the new CA View and CA Deliver loadlib and run, allow you to convert the databases over the next few months and provide fallback procedures for reverting back to r11.6. Administrative panels: The CA Deliver Primary Selection panel provides comprehensive access to the functions that you need to manage report distribution. With ISPF-like navigation, you can easily maintain, change and add reports, distribution information and bundling tasks by copying partial or full data panels. Sorting of display list data: This allows you to sort by any field on numerous display panels. When a display panel is sorted, the number of rows in the table will appear in the message area at the top right corner of the display. Archive distribution: Report archiving allows specification of up to 100 CA View repositories or any combination thereof as the destination for a single report. This gives you the ability to group similar data, data for a business unit or data with a greater level of security. This can also support the need for a hot-site recovery. Encrypting report data for PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance and privacy protection: Protecting your data is of utmost importance. Customers that store credit card data must abide by PCI compliance. One of the most important factors in this federally mandated compliance is to provide optimum security for data-at-rest via strong encryption. CA Deliver is compatible with a new feature called PCI Level Strong Encryption. This new PCI compliance mandates that any data containing personal information is to be encrypted using strong algorithms such as AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). We are integrating with the IBM CPACF and ICSF services for encryption. Banner pages: CA Deliver supports the customization of banner pages, providing unique detailed recipient distribution data, special handling instructions for report and bundle distribution and a listing of reports within a bundle. Report identifiers and definitions: This provides you with SYSOUT print attributes, assigns distribution identifiers (identifying the recipients to receive the report) and specialized instructions to be printed on the banner pages. It also defines the manner in which multiple reports written to the same data definition statement are to be separated, helping to eliminate unnecessary handling or duplication of pages and reports. Filtering of display list data: Filtering fields are supported on several selection list panels to refine or restrict the number of entries displayed in a list. Enhanced report collections: Enables CA Deliver to identify and collect reports based on external writer name and an 8-character forms name. The writer or forms name can be used in place of the DD Name on the Reports for Job definition, or it can be used as an alternative in place of a job name. 4
Email notification: Allows recipients to receive an email notification when a report is available for online viewing with an optional link or attachment to the report. The email notification message is sent to the email address in the recipients distribution definitions with a new email-format banner page. The CA Spool Email Print Driver is used as the transport vehicle for the emails. This provides the capability to send text or HTML emails to recipients, embed reports as attachments, track reports and optionally transform text reports to PDF. Scheduled distribution: Provides the ability to distribute hard copy output or email notification to a recipient based on specific days of the week. A new DAYS field has been added to the report distributions specifications to identify the days of the week that recipients are to receive output. Collect from data set: CA Deliver now provides an interface to collect, distribute and bundle report data contained in a standard sequential file. The new data set collector allows the processing of multiple files, report distribution based on a specific report definition and manipulation and sectioning of input data through a user exit. Distribution management: This gives you a control point that allows you to define where, how and to whom reports are distributed. Distribution identifier: Used to distribute paper or electronic reports and bundles to a user with the name, address, class, and destination data. Distribution lists: Contains a list of distribution identifiers that receive printed or electronic reports. If the distribution requirements change, individuals can be easily added, changed or removed from the distribution list, which will automatically change the distribution and viewing requirements of the associated reports. Distribution selection list: Provides a real-time support facility to manage your distribution identifiers. Through this single facility, you can delete distribution identifiers and all references to them, as well as rename distribution identifiers. This automatically changes all references to the new name and displays a cross-reference of all reports and distribution lists referencing the distribution identifier. Bundle management subsystem: Bundles are packages of previously defined CA Deliver reports that are generated by one or more jobs at the same or different times in a cycle and grouped together by the bundle manager. These bundles provide the distribution specifications and special instructions with a report listing that is printed on the banner pages to assist in tracking and distribution handling. Bundle distribution control: The CA Deliver bundling facility controls when bundles are to be produced. The combined use of the parameters LATE, INTERVAL and WAIT within each bundle, define the action when and how often the bundle manager takes to process the bundles. Database management utilities: CA Deliver database utilities provide support to create, manage and maintain your report management system. Database build from JCL: The RMOJCL and RMOJCS utilities automatically construct the CA Deliver database by scanning your job JCL library and adding job and report description data to the database. These utilities allow you to quickly and easily configure your database to immediately begin using the CA Deliver system. 5
General report writer: The RMOGRW utility is a general purpose reporting program that provides a hard-copy printout or data report of information in the CA Deliver database. The utility can obtain any information from the database job descriptor record, report descriptor record, history records, distribution data record, bundle descriptor record and active report status records. Database batch update: The RMODBB utility is used to perform batch updating of the CA Deliver database, including the adding, changing, deleting and renaming of a job, report distribution and bundle identifier. This allows you to construct or modify the database from existing data that you are currently maintaining about the reports you produce. It also allows you to distribute and establish automated processes for updating and maintaining the system. Enterprise report management integration: CA Deliver is tightly integrated with CA View, CA Spool and CA Output Management Web Viewer. CA Deliver interfaces: CA Deliver provides a number of options and interfaces, including CA Deliver Interface for VTAM, CA Deliver for CICS, CA Deliver Interface for IMS, CA Roscoe Interactive Environment and CA Deliver for Native TSO. Bundle from archive database: To bundle reports together, CA Deliver must keep a copy of each report until it is time to compose the bundle. If reports are archived to the CA View database that the bundling process uses, they are stored and retrieved from there. Otherwise, they are stored in the JES spool and deleted after the bundle is composed. CA Deliver now retrieves these bundle-holding copies from whichever CA View database is used for archiving. This eliminates the overhead of writing to and reading from the spool. Benefits CA Technologies mission for report management is to provide you with leading software for the capture, archival, distribution, viewing and management of documents throughout your enterprise. CA Deliver provides the following critical benefits that can provide greater business value by helping you unify and simplify IT: A powerful electronic report processing system and a single point of report management can significantly reduce the costs associated with mass hard copy report printing and distribution. Report and recipient administration tools facilitate the secure and efficient distribution of information, helping you verify that users have access only to the information they need.
