What s new and compelling Mainframe 2.0 CA Mainframe Software Manager The CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM) automates CA Aion BRE installation, deployment, and maintenance and removes SMP/E complexities. The Software Acquisition Service enables you to easily move product installation packages and maintenance from online support directly to your mainframe environment and prepare them for installation. The Software Installation Service standardizes CA Aion BRE installation, which includes a new, streamlined Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) method that allows CA Aion BRE to be installed using standard utilities. This service also provides standardized SMP/E product installation and maintenance via APARs and PTFs, and simplifies SMP/E processing through an intuitive graphical user interface and an intelligent Installation Wizard. The Software Deployment Service enables you to easily deploy CA Aion BRE in your mainframe environment. CA MSM Consolidation Software Inventory (CSI) updates and infrastructure improvements add flexibility to CA MSM processing of CSIs and enable CA MSM to more effectively utilize CPU and system memory. Installation verification program (IVP) and execution verification program As part of qualification for inclusion in the set of CA Technologies mainframe products released every May, CA Aion BRE has passed stringent tests performed through the IVP and the EVP to find and resolve interoperability problems prior to release. Health Checker The Mainframe 2.0 Health Checker provides CA Aion BRE Health Checks that execute under the IBM Health Checker for z/os. CA Aion BRE Health Checks automatically check the status of VTAM and TCP/IP requests to MAES (Multitasking Aion Execution System) and issue messages if busy responses are at or nearing a level that could indicate a problem. 2

3 CA AION BRE 11.0 Dynamic Rules Manager CA Aion BRE Dynamic Rules Manager now includes a clone facility and new reports. This feature enables you to easily copy domains and rules within CA Aion BRE. JAVA Connection Architecture (JCA/JAVA Resource Adapter (JRA) support JCA/JRA improves connectivity and performance by adding support for TCP/IP calls between J2EE environments and MAES on the mainframe. DB2 multi-row fetch CA Aion BRE r11 includes performance improvements for fetching rows within DB2. Updated infrastructure includes support for the latest operating systems, databases, application servers, compilers, and other standards, including Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Visual Studio 2008, and XML support on the mainframe. CA Aion Rule Manager a component of CA Aion BRE r11, includes expanded usability features, the ability to convert a Rule Project to CA Aion BRE, additional Web services deployment options, an updated open source platform, and a smaller footprint. The flexible IDE enables developers to build rules, components, and frameworks, as well as complete applications with user interfaces and data access based on users specific requirements and needs. It offers comprehensive class libraries, interactive development and debugging, and integration capabilities with life-cycle management tools. High-performance inference At the heart of CA Aion BRE is a high-performance inference engine that interprets and executes rules in real time. The engine supports forward and backward chaining, as well as many types of rules, including more advanced patternmatching rules. Dynamic rules CA Aion BRE also supports dynamic rules that are designed to be changed on the fly without incurring system downtime. Interoperability CA Aion BRE supports popular languages, databases, standards, and platforms from the mainframe to the desktop.
