1 DATA SHEET CA View r11.7 CA View is an automated archival and retrieval system that provides immediate and flexible online viewing of mainframe and distributed output. Its repository is capable of housing many types of documents and file types to give you an easy mechanism for selectively viewing and managing a variety of data types. CA View integrates with other solutions to automate the flow of reports between mainframe and distributed platforms, offering a solution that grows with changing business needs. Business value CA View is an automated archival and retrieval system that provides a user-friendly, secure, online environment for storing and viewing computer generated output. You can select portions of any report and set options to view and print only the pages you need. By automating day-today report management, CA View helps to minimize time-consuming manual tasks and lower document delivery costs. With CA View s online visibility, fewer reports are printed, saving paper and printing costs and reducing the time spent reformatting, tracking, handling and re-running reports. Product overview Many organizations utilize the mainframe to create and process thousands of enterprise documents on a daily basis. These organizations must automate and streamline the handling of this large volume of reports to help ensure optimal business operations. CA View fills the growing need for report management demands. It is a scalable, extensible solution that significantly reduces time and resource-intensive manual report management. 2 Product features Mainframe 2.0 CA View has adopted key Mainframe 2.0 features that are designed to simplify your use of CA View and enable your staff to install, configure and maintain it more effectively and quickly. CA Mainframe Software Manager : CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM) automates CA View installation and maintenance and removes SMP/E complexities. The Software Acquisition Service enables you to easily move product installation packages and maintenance from CA Support Online directly to your mainframe environment and prepare them for installation. The Software Installation Service standardizes CA View installation, which includes a new, streamlined Electronic Software Delivery (ESD) method that allows CA View to be installed using standard utilities. This service also provides standardized SMP/E product installation and maintenance via APARs and PTFs, and simplifies SMP/E processing through an intuitive graphical user interface and an intelligent Installation Wizard. The Software Deployment Service enables you to easily deploy CA View in your mainframe environment. The Software Configuration Service enables you to more effectively configure CA OM Web Viewer if it has been acquired, installed, maintained and deployed using CA MSM. Installation Verification Program (IVP) and Execution Verification Program (EVP): As part of qualification for inclusion in the set of CA Technologies mainframe products released every May, CA View has passed stringent tests performed through the IVP and EVP to find and resolve interoperability problems prior to release. These programs are an extension of our ongoing interoperability certification initiative launched in May Best Practices guide: This guide provides information on CA View installation, initial configuration and deployment to shorten the learning curve for staff that is responsible for the installation and management of this product. Health Checker: The Mainframe 2.0 Health Checker provides CA View Health Checks that execute under the IBM Health Checker for z/os. The CA View Health Checker is a valuable tool to identify potential problems before they impact your environment by: Checking to insure that encryption hardware is available for report encryption Notifying users that the CA View started task is not selectively archiving sysouts. This insures that no restrictions (sysout class, or Form, or Dest) have been implemented in CA View. As a result EVERY non-held sysout will be archived. Avoiding allowance of ADMINISTRATIVE access to all users. Insuring that the CA View database can be restored with CA View utilities. This health check will be issued if the built-in automatic Backup feature has been disabled by the administrator. 2

3 Serviceability: In order to provide additional levels of information and consistency for problem determination, CA View has adopted the following serviceability enhancements: Product description information: CA View provides a Product Description module that contains the product name, version/release number and other useful information. To determine which CA Technologies products are installed within each z/os environment, you can access and report on this module using the CA Common Services EXAMINE facility. Module identification: Each object deck comprising CA View contains a copyright and module identifier to assist with error analysis and debugging. Common dump title formatting: When applicable, CA View recovery routines use standard formatting of dump titles to assist with problem identification. Integration with CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation System State Manager: CA View integrates directly with CA OPS/MVS Event Management and Automation (CA OPS/MVS) to indicate programmatically its state and readiness in your environment. What s new in CA View r11.7 Enhanced I/O subsystem: Allow for more users per XMS and DRAS region. In CA View r11.6 we added support for extra-large datasets and now CA View r11.7 will reduce the below the line storage use per active user and optimize the processing. This will allow for a reduction in the number of XMS or DRAS regions needed to run CA View. To reduce overall logon time and below-the-line storage usage, database allocations and access will be shared with the users of a given XMS or DRAS region. The first user to log into a given database within the region will incur the wait time to allocate and open the database. Subsequent user access will be immediate. Approximately 3K of below-the-line storage will be used for each XMS or DRAS user as compared with 16K to 100K of below-the-line storage with release This storage reduction will increase the limit of users within a region by approximately five times. Added enhanced compliance mode: Added via a new REGDAYS ERO control option. Some compliance regulations mandate that once reports are stored they cannot be physically deleted until their original expiration date has been reached. The new REGDAYS ERO option allows clients to set such a date for incoming reports. Reports archived under REGDAYS can have their expiration date expanded to a later date, but the date cannot be lowered and the reports cannot be deleted until they are expired. Combined with the PCI level encryption added in CA View r11.6 this brings the CA View product to a new level of compliance. This setting can also work together with our EMC Centera interface and provides the same level of regulatory security if files are migrated to the EMC Centera devise running in compliance mode. Added print by dataset feature: The batch retrieval facility, SARBCP, has been enhanced to allow printing of individual data sets within a Sysout group. If a Sysout group is a collection of Sysout data sets such as the job log, job JCL listing, job message, and/or other data sets, these individual data sets can be printed based on their DD name, step name, and/or procedure step name. The DD name, step name, and/or procedure step name specification can be provided on the new DSLIST parameter of the SARBCH /PRINT control statement. Enhanced MAXLINES parameter: The MAXLINES parameter now has the option of limiting the lines archived in a Sysout dataset. This gives the user the ability to truncate a large dataset and still archive other smaller datasets into the same Sysout group. 3

4 Key capabilities CA View provides: Retrieving reports: The CA View retrieval process begins when you enter your selection criteria on the Primary Selection panel. Other panels display a selection list of all the reports that match your criteria, enabling you to index, find, retrieve, view and print specific reports that have been archived within the system. Browsing: The browse facility allows you to control the display of the data that you are browsing. The standard or default view of the report shows entire records in a full-screen, SPF-like format, while other viewing choices, called logical views, can be customized to fit your needs. It is with this facility that a user can page through the report, print selected pages, perform enhanced searches, create custom views and define filter criteria. CA View also supports the listing and browsing of individual data sets within a SYSOUT group, retaining the step name, procedure step name, ddname, data set number, lines and pages. Annotations and bookmarks: When browsing a report, the location or position within the report can be bookmarked for later fast recall. You can attach notes to the document for later reference with an annotation. CA View keeps track of your bookmarks and annotations and provides a reference name for each. This naming allows you to display a bookmark and reposition to the report portion of interest. Encrypting report data for PCI (Payment Card Industry) compliance and privacy protection: Protecting your data is of utmost importance. Customers that store credit card data must abide by PCI compliance. One of the most important factors in this federally mandated compliance is to provide optimum security for data-at-rest via strong encryption. CA View contains a new feature called PCI Level Strong Encryption. This new PCI compliance mandates that any data containing personal information is encrypted using Strong Cryptography such as AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) 128 bits and higher. Logical views: This secured mechanism is used to control what the report looks like. Logical views can be used to display the data of a columnar report in a different location or order, present the report with different headings or provide color or highlighting to enhance the viewing of critical information. There are 255 logical views of a report that can be created and applied to public, private and global logical views. Private logical views: This feature allows you to create a private logical view of a report for your own use. Other users cannot access your private view. You can create a private view if you are defined to the system as a non-restricted user (i.e., you have access to the native, unsecured view of a report). Selecting by report or index: Secured cross-report and multi-level page indexing offer flexibility in the report selection. With Multi-level Page Indexing you are able to quickly drill down to the page level containing the search information. Cross-Report Indexing retrieval shows you all the reports that match the index search for your selection. Archive recall: The CA View online system gives the user the ability to temporarily load reports from secondary storage to disk for browsing or printing. 4

5 External security: CA View constructs a unique resource type and resource data for each resource that can be secured. The RACROUTE macro which interfaces with CA ACF2, CA Top Secret, and IBM RACF is used to verify access to data. The resource type and data are known to RACROUTE as class and entity. Large dataset support: The size of a database extent is no longer limited to 4369 cylinders. Now a database extent can allocate an entire 3390 mod 27 (32,760 cylinders) as one database extent. This increases the maximum database size from 1,114,095 to 8,353,800 cylinders. If your site consolidates the CA View database into as few extents as possible, you will see the following benefits: Increased database capacity over 8 million cylinders as opposed to 1 million in previous releases Lower below-the-line storage requirements allowing a single XMS region to process more users Faster logons to CA View because fewer extents are being accessed CA Deliver interface: CA Deliver direct to CA View archival is a feature that stores reports produced through CA Deliver into the repository. AFP report archival: CA View archives AFP reports through the AFP Conversion and Indexing Facility (ACIF), a utility that is part of the IBM PSF/MVS functional subsystem archiver. Tape archive consolidation of reports (SARPAC): The SARPAC tape consolidation utility copies active reports to a new tape, bypassing expired reports to maximize tape utilization. Audit trail and accounting: Metrics processes data in System Management Facility (SMF) record format, providing detailed accounting of users logging on and off, viewing, reprinting, loading and deleting reports. The file containing the Metrics SMF records can be used as input to a report writer, such as CA Earl or CA Easytrieve, to create customized reports Backup and recovery: CA View provides the functionality to help ensure that documents are automatically backed up, as well as the facility to restore and recover documents into the repository. Backing up the database: As part of its backup cycle, CA View optionally backs up to tape the current disk archive generation of documents along with the master index. The process can also create duplicate backup tapes, and interim backups can be taken to minimize the period of time for which no backup exists on tape. Forward recovery: With Forward Recovery, all data archived by the CA View started task is also stored in Forward Recovery data sets. If a repository is to be restored, you can recover the data that was archived after the last backup. Restoration: With recovery utilities you can map documents to a tape, copy tapes, salvage damaged tapes, restore corrupted repositories and selective documents or complete generation of documents from tape. Backward compatibility: CA View r11.7 is able to read prior versions of report data found on disk and tape. This will greatly simplify conversion to release r11.7 by eliminating the need for the MASS conversions, allowing you to install the new CA View and CA Deliver loadlib and run, allow you to convert the databases over the next few months and provide fallback procedures for reverting back to r11, r11.5, or r

6 Native PDF indexing: CA View provides FSS collectors to collect text reports, AFP reports and XEROX reports. A new FSS collector is now supported to collect, archive and index PDF reports. Once collected, the PDF report can be viewed from the CA Output Management Web Viewer. If the PDF report is indexed, individual sections of the report can be secured and viewed by selecting indexes through cross-report selection. PAV support: Parallel Access Volume (PAV) permits a single z/os host server to issue multiple I/O requests in parallel to individual logical devices (LDEVs). CA View now supports PAV access to the CA View database, which can significantly improve performance by allowing multiple I/O s to be concurrently executed on the same volume. Enhanced flexibility for AFP reprinting: CA View has an ACIFRES initialization parameter that determines whether AFP reports collected by the ACIF FSS collector are to be reprinted with or without the archived ACIF resources. For greater flexibility when reprinting AFP reports, the user can now override the system default and select whether to include or exclude archived ACIF resources. A new field, INCLUDE AFP RESOURCES, has been added to the online and batch reprint panels to allow override of the ACIFRES initialization parameter setting. Disaster Recovery (DR) tape support: DR tapes can be created and sent off site daily. These tapes are not mirrors of the primary or duplex tapes and can be created on a different device type. DR tapes are cut after backup cycles have completed, cataloged when they are created and un-cataloged by the backup cycle when all reports on a volume have expired. Direct integration with other CA Enterprise Report Management solutions: CA View is available as both a stand-alone product or closely integrated with CA Deliver, CA LPD Report Convergence, CA Output Management Web Viewer, CA Spool and CA Balancing Report Control. CA View options and interfaces CA View interfaces: CA View Interface for VTAM CA View CICS Interface CA View Interface for IMS CA View Interface for CA Roscoe CA View Interface for Native TSO CA View AFP-as-PDF option CA View options: Proprietary Print Stream (PPS): The CA View Output Archival and Viewing PPS Viewing Option for XEROX enables users to quickly display an electronic copy of a Xerox document without printing it, as well as select a section of a report for printing or archive a report for subsequent viewing. These new capabilities add value to critical mainframe applications that produce Xerox proprietary line mode, DJDE and Metacode print streams. Viewing from Tape Option: CA View Output Archival and Viewing Tape Viewing Option provides the user with the ability to view reports and documents directly from stand-alone tape devices and from robotics devices without having to load the report back to disk. You will no longer have to wait for a tape mount or require extra DASD space in the disk database to accommodate reports that are temporarily loaded from tape. 6

7 Extended Retention Option: CA View Output Archival and Viewing Extended Retention Option provides retention capabilities based on generations, days and copies for specific reports or groups of reports and specifies storage groups for like data/retentions. EMC Centera Option: CA View Option for EMC Centera adds compatibility to an IPconnected, high-speed storage device at a fraction of the cost of DASD. This option reduces the need to store report data on tape. AFP-as-PDF Option: CA View AFP-as-PDF Option provides the capability to view AFPformatted reports stored in CA View from CA Output Management Web Viewer as PDF on-the-fly when a report is requested.
