The Ceter for Developmet ad Disability The Ceter for Developmet ad Disability (CDD) is New Mexico s Uiversity Ceter for Excellece i Developmetal Disabilities Educatio, Research ad Service (previously kow as a UAP). These ceters are authorized by the Developmetal Disabilities Assistace ad Bill of Rights Act to build the capacities of states ad commuities to respod to the eeds of idividuals with developmetal disabilities ad their families ad are give core fudig by the Admiistratio o Developmetal Disabilities (ADD). Fudig for other programs ad projects is obtaied through state cotracts, federal grats ad private fudig. There are 61 ceters located i every state ad territory, which fuctio as a atioal etwork of programs. The missio of the CDD is the full iclusio of people with disabilities ad their families i their commuity by: egagig idividuals i makig life choices; parterig with commuities to build resources; ad improvig systems of care. Buildig Capacity i the Health Care Commuity is a traiig ad awareess project desiged to icrease cooperatio betwee healthcare providers ad local early itervetio providers for early idetificatio ad referral. The CDD Partership Iitiative researched atioal best practice for the developmet of real parterships with people with developmetal disabilities ad their families from which a series of recommedatios for recruitmet ad traiig of advisory board members ad a system of co-worker supports were desiged ad are beig implemeted. The Early Childhood Evaluatio Program offers traiig ad techical assistace to commuity providers, local health care providers, studets from multiple disciplies, ad others servig youg childre with suspected disabilities or special health care eeds. Early Childhood Network provides collaborative ad resposive traiig, cosultatio ad techical assistace to groups ad idividuals workig with ifats ad toddlers with developmetal delays or risk coditios ad with their families statewide. Family Support Project is a systems chage project that is workig with families of adolescets ad youg adults with developmetal disabilities ad the NM Departmet of Health to develop a model of family directed support. First Natioal Native America Early Childhood Meetig Support coducted to provide techical assistace ad iformatio to participatig early childhood tribal programs atiowide. The NMONE Traiig Project researched best practice, ad fialized criteria for excellet services to people with developmetal disabilities by Oe Stop Career Ceters, which were refied through extesive feedback from key stakeholders ad form the basis of field-tested traiig, a maual, ad a iformatio kit. NO Walls is a commuity techology ceter, which collaborates with the Albuquerque Public Library to icrease the capacity of persos with disabilities, their families, service providers, teachers, ad advocates i the Albuquerque metropolita area to use computer techology to access iformatio. The Preschool Network provides traiig, techical assistace, ad evaluatio support to those workig with youg childre, 3-5 years old, with developmetal delays or special educatio eeds i New Mexico. Project Na iti developed traiig to maximize the kowledge ad skills of Navajo paraprofessioals ad parets to work more effectively with childre with special eeds. Project SET offers traiig ad techical assistace to commuity teams, icludig parets, who work with youg childre with Autism Spectrum Disorder. A Aual Public Policy Istitute provides traiig for graduate studets, family members ad pediatric residets o the legislative process ad how to positively impact public policy. Southwest Autism Network is a statewide family support, techical assistace ad traiig etwork that employs traied regioal paret coordiators to provide traiig ad support i their commuities. Special Educatio Leadership i Developmet Disabilities Pilot Program developed a proposal to expad leadership traiig to Doctoral Studets i Special Educatio. The Early Childhood Evaluatio Program provides statewide diagostic developmetal evaluatio services for childre birth to three years of age i their commuities. Idia Childre s Program provides supplemetal services to Native America childre birth through 21 years old who have developmetal disabilities ad special eeds. Medically Fragile Case Maagemet Program provides urse case maagemet services to medically fragile idividuals ad their families throughout New Mexico through ie commuity based satellites. Dissemiatio of Iformatio Biligual Services for the CDD Iformatio services was supported by the State Departmet of Educatio, to provide iformatio ad referral for Spaish-laguage calls ad support the purchase of Spaish-laguage materials. CDD Library ad Iformatio Network for the Commuity (LINC) has a web-based catalogue of comprehesive resources, cosistig of books, videocassettes, audiocassettes, traiig mauals, ad periodicals, that address the iformatio eeds of idividuals with disabilities, their families, providers, ad advocates. NETWORK NEWS is a bi-mothly ewsletter produced ad dissemiated by the Preschool Network, of the Early Childhood Divisio, for those servig childre with special eeds i New Mexico preschool settigs. Touch Poits is a ewsletter for families ad providers for childre who have dual sesory impairmets ad is produced ad dissemiated by the Project for New Mexico Youth ad Childre who are Deaf/Blid. CDD DATA FOR FY02 260 healthcare professioal studets from several differet disciplies (medicie, ursig, physical therapy, occupatioal therapy, speech therapy, audiology, social work, utritio, psychology, ad health admiistratio) received traiig o developmetal disabilities from CDD faculty ad staff. 7,788 healthcare providers, educators, paraprofessioals, parets ad self-advocates participated i CDD traiig activities held throughout New Mexico. CDD programs provided case maagemet ad/or evaluatio services to 1,065 New Mexicas. Traiig ad techical assistace activities coducted by CDD programs were held i 97% (32/33) of the couties i New Mexico. The Iformatio Ceter for New Mexicas with Disabilities provided iformatio ad referral services to 2,280 idividuals ad the CDD Resource Ceter assisted 500 providers, parets, self-advocates, educators ad state agecy staff with accessig disability related iformatio.
