SHORT-TERM TRAINING Australian education providers have an outstanding reputation for delivering short-term workforce training around the world for international sporting events such as the Olympic Games, the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games. The following Australian education providers have experience delivering training to nations hosting large-scale sporting events: DEC International (TAFE NSW) TAFE NSW has extensive expertise developing and implementing successful training master plans and action plans for large-scale workforce training for major international events. For the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games, TAFE NSW managed and delivered training for over 100 000 staff members. The institution was responsible for training plans and curricula for the Athens 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games and for the training for over 2500 workforce members for the Equestrian Events of the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. DEC International s experience in workforce training for large events extends beyond the Olympic and Paralympic Games, including services provided for the Shanghai 2010 World Expo, Doha 2006 Asian Games, 8th All Africa Games in Nigeria and the 2003 Rugby World Cup Sydney. Edith Cowan University Edith Cowan University s two-year Associate Degree of Event, Sport and Recreation Management provides specific, industry-focused theoretical knowledge and practical skills for a career in the sport and recreation industries, including the growth areas of community development and event management within these sectors. Holmesglen Institute of TAFE Holmesglen Institute of TAFE was the official training provider for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, responsible for a complete training strategy for 17 000 games workforce members. The institute has extensive experience delivering customised training and award courses in an international context. For the 2006 Doha Asian Games in Qatar, Holmesglen provided the core project team who delivered workforce training through a joint venture agreement with EFI International. The project featured a number of innovations in multi-event workforce training. In total the team designed, developed and delivered training to approximately 66 700 workforce members in three main areas: 3rd West Asian Games Test Event workforce Doha Asian Games Organising Committee staff 15th Asian Games, Doha 2006 workforce Short courses and executive programs in event management include an award-winning Executive Certificate in event management which spans the range of skills associated with event planning and delivery including: scheduling, site/venue layout and design, project management, risk management and supplier management and selection. Additionally, ACEM conducts specialist courses in areas such as event environmental planning, event production and design, event risk assessment and event marketing. West Coast Institute of Training West Coast Institute of Training has significant experience delivering accredited and non-accredited courses overseas, with specialist expertise in security and risk management. Projects have included delivering security operations programs in Indonesia and Qatar, delivering business management and marketing courses in Hong Kong, delivering hospitality and tourism courses in China. University of Technology, Sydney The Australian Centre for Event Management (ACEM) at University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) is a world leader in the field of event management, delivering training programs within Australia and internationally. ACEM has delivered event training in London, Beijing, Edinburgh, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Kuching, Macau and Bay of Plenty. This included ACEM partnering with two Olympic cities, Beijing and Athens, to deliver master s degree programs linked to the planning and delivery of Olympic Games in those locations. > > English language training Australian ELICOS providers have experience designing and delivering English language training for a range of industries, with capability to develop similar courses for major sporting events.
