The environments around us are constantly evolving and changing. The pioneers of this change should, undoubtedly, be the architects who, through their designs, offer societies better living environments. However, creating better environments requires analyzing current architectural problems with a critical mind, closely following and capitalizing on the latest technological developments, showing ecological care, having social responsibility; and being devoted to business ethics. Assistant Professor İlker Fatih Özorhon (PhD Architectural Design ITU) In addition to all these qualities, as the Özyeğin University Architecture Program, we are committed to prepare innovative and creative architects who are life-long learners and researchers vested with superior skills and unparalleled competence to make a difference in today s competitive environment.
Bachelor of Industrial Design (B.ID) The profound social, economic, political and cultural transformation that goes by the name of globalization reshaped the world in the late 20th century, replacing old values and trends with new ones. As in all walks of life, globalizations had also a major impact on the field of design. On the other hand, the concept of sustainable development has underscored the importance of preserving natural resources for future generations. The Undergraduate Industrial Design Program at OzU is flexible and tailored for teaching how to learn, inculcates problem solving skills, encourages creative thinking and provides opportunities for collaborations with other programs offered by the Faculty of Architecture and Design. As its key mission and philosophy, the program aspires to equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills and help them gain an appreciation for sustainable designs in the pursuit of preparing them as multi-dimensional and successful designers who are able to integrate their knowledge and skills with the state of the art technologies, reflect their intuitions and emotions to their designs; achieve outstanding accomplishments in different tracks of the field of design, and are well-aware that their designs should be applicable in the real world. In Istanbul where culture meets industry, design, in particular industrial design has a pivotal role in facilitating innovative products and services originated from local values but with a strong potential for global reach. Industrial Design Program at OzU with its strong focus on entrepreneurship takes the full advantage of being located in Istanbul with its diversified links to the local and global stakeholders of design, and targets to create a center of excellence in Istanbul for the new age of design innovation.
Bachelor of Science in Communication Design As being founded within the Faculty of Architecture and Design for the first time in Turkey, the Department of Communication Design offers a four year undergraduate program that aims at the understanding of the principles, theories and the practice of communication design with the goal of conveying ideas and information consisting of image, text and sound in the most efficient form. Encompassing areas such as information architecture, interactive interface design, multi-media applications, new generation of communication technologies, and interactive exhibition systems, this program is in mutual support with other departments in the faculty. Our students, besides acquiring a strong background in communication design principles, can be equipped with interdisciplinary knowledge that incorporates a broad domain, or by gaining in-depth knowledge through our modular program, can be graduated as experts in a personally focused field. In their Freshman year, students will acquire knowledge in basic design principles, attain skills in drawing and in the use of software, and be able to produce with basic media by using photography and video. In the Sophomore year, students will be offered courses where they can obtain extensive knowledge in graphic design, typography, animation, information architecture & network design, and history of art & design. In their Junior year, in addition to design studio, interactive media design and basics of usability, students can take elective courses on subjects they are interested in, or courses included in the module of their personally focused area. In the Senior year, along with the design studio, and the graduation project, students will gain knowlegde in technology & innovation management and strategy development. In this semester, students will also be able to take elective courses on subjects they are interested in, or courses included in the module of their personally focused area.
