2 Welcome to the Green Paradise of God s Own Country The Kerala Agricultural University is pleased to invite you to the International Symposium on Succulents and other Ornamentals being held under the auspices of the ISHS (International Society for Horticultural Science) from 24 th to 27 th January 2016 at the Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Ambalavayal, Wayanad, Kerala. The deliberations will include discourses and presentations by renowned expert s world over on the theme : Succulents and Other Ornamentals. Beyond doubt every scientist, student and/or stakeholder in the floriculture industry will stand immensely benefited by this unique platform for knowledge sharing and partnerships. The symposium will be capped with an outing showcasing the rich natural heritage of the place. Block the dates on your calendar even as we look forward to seeing you here in January 2016. The Venue: Located at an altitude of 974m above MSL, Ambalavayal enjoys a mild sub-tropical climate. Pepper, cardamom, ginger, turmeric, clove, cinnamon, tropical and subtropical fruits, summer and cool season vegetables and a large array of ornamentals covers the 87 ha RARS farm. The station is now designated as the Centre of Excellence for fruits, subtropical vegetables and spices. How to reach: Ambalavayal well connected by road -100 km east of Kozhikode(Calicut), 25 km east of Kalpetta and just 10 km from Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district of Kerala. One can reach the venue from Kozhikode, Kannur, Ooty and/or Mysore.

ABSTRACT AND MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION Papers on all aspects relating to "Succulents and Ornamentals" are welcome. However, the focal theme has been classified into four broad catogories as follows:- 1) Biodiversity, conservation and utilization of succulents & other ornamentals..
2) Molecular approaches for crop improvement in succulents and other ornamentals. 3) Bulbous ornamentals commercial, potential, production techniques and crop improvement. 4) Recent trends and techniques for commercial production and utilization of ornamentals. All abstracts and manuscripts must be submitted by using the ISHS Online submission and Review Tool. Official language used at the symposium is English. Abstract must be limited to 250 words. The abstract must contain original research work and include information on the rationale, objective of the research, approach, methodology and important research findings. Manuscripts should be concise limited to 16 pages for invited papers and 8 pages for oral papers/papers resulting from poster presentations. An average page of text will contain about 800 words. Please note that a fee of 50 EURO will be additionally CHARGED FOR EACH EXCESS PAGE. Selected full papers will be published in Acta Horticulture. 4 Abstract Submission - Clarifications The submission of abstracts is allowed only through ISHS website http://www.actahort.org/members/symposiar?nr=597. 2. Once you complete the abstract submission through http:// www.actahort.org/members/symposiar?nr=597, you will be able to register at the lower registration fee for ISHS members. The payment of registration fee can be done through ISHS website as well as through bank transfer. (Please see the bank account details http://issorars.org/registration.html) 5 3. For authors with difficulties to pay the ISHS membership fee online, apart from payment through credit card, we also accept payment through bank transfer. However, for payment through bank transfer the author should take into account that it will take at least one week before the ISHS membership will be activated.
