College Policies, Academic Integrity: Your commitment as a student to learning is evidenced by your enrollment at First Coast Technical College. Faculty members are required to report all infractions to their supervisor. Instances of academic dishonesty will not be tolerated. Cheating on exams, student activities or plagiarism will result in failing grade and sanctions by the College.

According to the Center for Academic Integrity there are five fundamental values that characterize an academic community of integrity: Honesty. The quest for truth and knowledge requires intellectual and personal honesty in learning, teaching, research and service. Trust. Academic institutions must foster a climate of mutual trust in order to stimulate the free exchange of ideas. Fairness. All interactions among students, faculty and administrators should be grounded in clear standards, practices and procedures. Respect. Learning is acknowledged as a participatory process, and a wide range of opinions and ideas is respected. Responsibility. A thriving community demands personal accountability on the part of all members and depends upon action in the face of wrongdoing. Class Room Rules: The Digital Design classroom is held in a professional manner. The goal of this program is to give our students everything that they need to enter the workforce. This also includes professional behavior and dress. Do arrive to class on time. Keep in mind that anytime missed will be docked from your hours in the class which is required for the completion of the course. This counts for excused and unexcused absences. Absences. Just like at work, you need to notify the instructor if you are going to be absent for it to be excused. This is also part of your professional Grade for the class. If you are to be absent, you need to email the instructor. The email address is below in contact information. Excused Absences: Students must be in school unless the absence has been excused for one of the reasons listed below: Excused absences include the following: Personal Illness, Illness of an immediate family member, death in the family, Religious holidays of the student s religious faith, required court appearance or subpoena by a law enforcement agency, special events, including, but not limited to, important public functions, student conferences, student state/national competitions, scheduled, doctor or dentist appointments, Students having or suspected of having a communicable disease or infestation that can be transmitted re to be excluded from school. Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences include, but are not limited to the following: Shopping trips, Pleasure trips, Suspension from school, Appointments thout prior approval except in the case of emergency, Truancy, other avoidable absences. Do make sure to wear the appropriate Uniform for the Class (adults only). Below you will find a list and the appropriate way to wear them. - Collared Polo Shirts (there are Digital Design polos in the bookstore) - Collared Dress Shirt/ Blouse - Jeans or slacks without holes in them. - Skirts or Dresses (no more than 3 inches above the knee) - No revealing clothing. Please no low cut tops or exposed shoulders. - Hair must be groomed and you are to come to class looking clean, professional and ready to work. Classroom attire should be clean and presentable. Take pride in who you are and how you look. This dress code would apply in a Professional Environment and there for it is required in the Digital Design Classroom. Do show respect to classmates and instructor. Do have all your work turned in on time and pay attention to due dates. In a professional environment your due dates will not adjust because you didn t feel like doing the work or stayed out too late the night before. Everyday late, it is 5 points off your total grade. Your due dates are set in STONE unless otherwise notified by the instructor

Do turn off the computers when you leave the room each day. We want to conserve energy when possible. Do original work. Any plagiarism will result in an automatic 0 and a meeting with guidance and or parents. This includes written work as well as design projects. Do respect the design process. Every good designer follows one, and I expect the class to do the same. It is a process that is vital to creating good award winning designs and includes research, planning, sketches, refining, and time management. Do work hard do not sell yourself short! This is a great class that can result in finding a great job if you work hard. Even though some projects/work may seem foreign, know that you can complete and excel at anything that is given to you. I expect each of you to exceed what is asked of you by you taking initiative to push yourselves. This is needed if you want to find a quality job in this field. Design is not for slackers. Do create an exit survey: If you leave my program for any reason, I require that you provide an exit survey (or notice). This needs to state why you are leaving, if you are planning on getting a job in the field, and if there is anything you wish was done differently in the class. This is similar to a 2 week notice that you would give at any place of employment. Do stay in touch! When you graduate, FCTC likes to know where their alumni are working and what they are doing with their lives! I personally take pride in every student and what to know how you are applying your new design skills and what awesome jobs you have acquired. This is not required but encouraged. Also, please keep in mind, you are expected to follow all school rules and district rules.
