Sung-suk Violet Yu Page 3 of 8 03/2009 08/2010 The Los Angeles County Jail Overcrowding Reduction Project Role: Principal Investigator Center on Sentencing and Corrections, Vera Institute of Justice, New York, NY Funding: County of Los Angeles, $500,000 Activities: As the principal investigator, my duties included: (i) requesting and obtaining data in compatible formats; (ii) planning data analysis and deliverables; (iii) maintaining relationships with key contact persons at several agencies; and (iv) trouble-shooting issues related to obtaining, accessing, and analyzing data. - Extensive involvement in many key written deliverables including Data Collection and Systems Analysis Plan, Data Request Memos to various agencies, monthly update reports delineating challenges and progress made to the Countywide Criminal Justice Coordination Committee (CCJCC). - Providing a comprehensive written product on topics on database systems incompatibility and limited research activities utilizing various databases to the CCJCC 05/2009 08/2010 The Cooperative Community Alternative Sanction Project (CCASP), Alabama Role: Principal Investigator Center on Sentencing and Corrections, Vera Institute of Justice, New York, NY Funding: Pew Charitable Trusts Activities: This project aims to examine offender profiles and diversion programs in four pilot counties in Alabama. I took over this project in May of 2009 as the principal investigator, at the conclusion of research in the first pilot county (Lawrence County). - One of the co-authors of a report summarizing our challenges with data collections and findings from data analysis in CCASP: Montgomery County. The findings were presented to the Montgomery Local Steering Committee in February 2010. - The Montgomery County report contained systems profiles composed of offender profile, sentencing profile, services profile, and system map based on data analysis, policy and practice review, and interviews and focus groups. - The CCASP was implemented in Jefferson County in March 2010, and scheduled to be concluded in July 2010.
