Leadership and Human Resource Essentials (HRS402) Learning Objectives Classroom Course Note: The Leadership and Human Resource Essentials classroom course has an online education requirement that can be completed before or after attending the two-day classroom requirement. The student will receive log-in information for the online education requirement in the course confirmation information. Online Education Requirement Lesson 1: Legal Issues and Human Resource Management Define human resource management. Interpret employee rights legislation. Identify workplace security and safety laws. Apply requirements related to employment offers and contracts. Lesson 2: Policies and Recordkeeping Identify the methods and tools used to communicate company policies to employees. Identify best practices in records management. Lesson 3: Human Resource Development Describe the importance of training and development to an organization. Match the principles of adult learning with training and development. Compare the different training delivery methods. Identify career development techniques. Lesson 4: Organizational Culture and Staff Relations Describe how organizational culture contributes to positive staff relations. Identify methods to gauge and influence employee attitudes toward the workplace. Compare the different types of employee separation and ways to manage turnover.

Classroom Requirement Day 1: Leadership Leadership Lesson 1: Leadership Is More than Management Differentiate between leadership and management. Assess your leadership strengths and developmental needs. Examine and discuss how you use your leadership strengths and how you could use them more efficiently. Leadership Lesson 2: Emotional Intelligence Define emotional intelligence. Reflect on your level of self-awareness after reacting to a series of photographs. Discuss the process you used to examine your emotional reaction to the photographs. Leadership Lesson 3: The Leader as Coach Differentiate between providing performance feedback and coaching. Discuss how to give performance feedback and coaching in video scenarios. Evaluate leaders giving performance feedback and coaching in video scenarios. Demonstrate effective methods for providing feedback to and coaching employees. Leadership Lesson 4: The Leader as an Agent of Change Discuss the positive and negative effects of change to an organization. Examine the leader as an agent of change. Realize the change process through a simulation activity. Leadership Lesson 5: Debrief Revisit your leadership self-assessment, and choose one developmental need on which to work. Examine your support network for your leadership development efforts. Review an action plan that will enable you to enhance your leadership skills.

Identify methods used to establish job responsibilities and required skills. Revise an existing job description. HR Essentials Lesson 2: Recruiting and Selection Explain the benefits of diversity in the workplace. Examine the internal and external methods used to attract qualified job candidates. Evaluate interviewers in video scenarios, and develop interview questions. Compare alternative staffing options. HR Essentials Lesson 3: Performance Management and Evaluation Analyze performance management and evaluation methods. Discuss the different types of compensation and benefits, and identify the steps taken to create pay equity. Assess approaches to performance issues and misconduct. Evaluate nonfinancial ways to motivate employees.
