Infection Control Accreditation Program (ICAP)

ACCREDITATION OF INFECTION CONTROL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS Hygiene and Infection Control Modern medicine presents huge challenges for healthcare workers. These include understanding new scientifi c information, regulatory requirements, documentation, study results as well as innovative medicine, treatment strategies and devices in their daily practice. Sometimes hands on patient care drifts into the background due to these challenges. In addition, new developments such as telemedicine and medical tourism have changed patient care from one single local physician with their team overseeing patient care to an international team of specialized medical staff, which in some cases do not even know each other. Despite this, patient well-being and safety needs to be a fundamental part of all patient care and has to be our central aim. One quality marker and safety aspect for both patient and staff is the rate of complications such as nosocomial infections. Therefore, infection prevention and control has globally become of growing importance over the past years. In times of Multi-Drug-Resistant Organisms (MDRO) such as MRSA, ESBL and VRE, international as well as national programs are needed to ensure patient safety.

Patients are aware of these challenges and expect excellent hygienic conditions during their contact with the healthcare system. At the same time patients are more mobile and do not only select the best facility in their city or country, but also consider other countries or regions for their planned hospital stays. This also challenges the infection prevention and control strategies as demonstrated during the infl uenza pandemic, where the H1N1 viruses spread along fl ight routes rapidly throughout the world. Infection prevention and control is one important key quality and infl uences all processes of clinical practice. Therefore, it has to be managed professionally and used as a major management tool to avoid a loss in effi - ciency of the clinical staff and their processes. The global WHO campaign for patient safety Clean Care is Safer Care led my Professor Didier Pittet from Geneva, for example, is one campaign focusing on increasing the awareness of hand hygiene importance. It includes more than 120 countries and promotes hand hygiene with alcohol-based hand rubs. Your 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene Design: mondofragilis network WHO acknowledges the Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG), in particular the members of the Infection Control Programme, for their active participation in developing this material. 5 Essential Keys of Hygiene Management Personal hygiene including hand hygiene General hygiene including environment, air, water, general organization Surveillance and antibiotic stewardship High risk areas including OR, ICU, isolation rooms, instrument reprocessing Successful management of the four critical keys through a high-quality hygiene management system Infection Control Accreditation Program (ICAP) We established a holistic 5-step approach to certify your facility with a Certificate of Excellence in Infection Control, which is valid for three years. Step 1 is a site inspection based on international guidelines such as the German Robert-Koch-Institute, US-CDC, European-CDC, regional GCC, ISO/EN/ASTM standards as well as ISO 9001 quality management standard. In this audit, our experts will gain insight into your hygiene-related processes, documentation, environmental microbiological data, responsible personnel, training records etc. After this inspection you will receive an audit report in step 2, which is reviewed by an independent German expert. It will mention room for improvement, which is classified as recommendation, deviation or critical deviation. Also positive feedback will be included as hygiene motivation for your staff. If there are no critical deviations, you will jump to step 5 directly and receive an ICAP certificate. If there are critical deviations, you need to go through step 3, the improvement phase. After completing the critical deviations and a re-inspection in step 4, you will receive the certificate in step 5. In addition, your facility will be listed on the www.brillhygiene.com website showing its excellence in infection prevention and control. After the first visit, there will be annual re-inspections until the expiry of the certification after 3 years, when a re-accreditation audit is required and the process starts again with step 1.

Infection Control Accreditation Program (ICAP) for Healthcare Facilities With ICAP we provide an infection prevention and control accreditation program for healthcare facilities such as hospitals, dental and veterinary clinics. Our infection prevention and control program is approved by German hygiene experts and meets international standards such as US-CDC, European-CDC and German Robert-Koch-Institute as well as the regional GCC-standards. Globally, the importance of hygiene increases constantly. Therefore, our ICAP certificate shows to potential patients that the risk for a post-operative infection is as low as technically possible, which is very important especially for patients that visit a particular country for a medical treatment and leave the country before any clinical infection may become obvious. To demonstrate to your customers that your infection prevention and control program is approved by German hygiene experts and meets international and regional standards, you will receive a high-level accreditation Certificate of Excellence in Infection Control from us to be displayed in your facility and on your website. Patients will feel safe and secure so that you can differentiate from your competitors within your region and internationally. Your benefits are that you will be able to reduce costs and attract more patients (medical tourism). Our services are provided by German experts who have years of experience in the field of hygiene.

The Benefi ts for your Facility The ICAP certifi cate shows that you protect your patients and your employees.
