Update from Nurse Crawford. In 2015-2016 school year, all students entering seventh grade must receive (or have received) a Tdap vaccine in order to attend school. The Tdap
vaccine protects students from tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough (pertussis). This vaccine is routinely recommended to be given at 11-12 years of age; however, if Tdap vaccine is needed at an earlier age, a dose received on or after the seventh birthday will meet this requirement. You must provide proof to your child s school on a South Carolina Certificate of Immunization form. Please avoid the last-minute rush. Make an appointment with your rising seventh grader s healthcare provider today to get the newly required Tdap vaccine, along with other vaccines that are recommended for your child s protection.
