Checklist to accept card payments If you purchased the card reader from the payleven website, then you can skip these steps Have you already registered your business with payleven? If not please visit our website www.payleven.co.uk and register. Please note that we might require some further documents, such as proof of ID and proof of address. Have you already verified your bank details? If you haven t entered your bank details during the registration process, please log in at www.payleven.co.uk and enter them. We will then verify your bank account, which will take 2 working days. Is your Chip & PIN card reader activated? If you have purchased your Chip & PIN card reader through a retail partner, please enter the card reader s serial number during registration or later in your login area under Devices > Activate. Has your account been approved? We will notify you via email as soon as your account is approved and you are ready to start accepting card payments. Test it out with a 1 transaction. How to initiate a test is explained in the following paragraphs. 4
Get started Charge the Chip & PIN card reader by connecting the provided USB cable with a USB source (e.g. your computer). You can switch on the card reader by pressing the small ON/OFF button on the left hand side. Download the free payleven app on your phone or tablet from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. You can log in to the app with the email and password you created when registering at www.payleven.co.uk. Please always ensure you have a stable internet connection via Wifi, 3G or 4G Enable GPS/Location Services on your phone or tablet. iphone/ipad: Settings > Privacy > Location Services > On. Switch the payleven app in this setting to Always Android: Settings > GPS or Location Services or Location > Always. For some Android models: Ensure that under the Bluetooth settings the visibility timeout is set on Never timeout. Let your customers know that you accept card payments by putting up the window stickers and display. 5
Pair the card reader with iphone/ipad E-mail: Password: Bluetooth Bluetooth payleven123 Accept new device 0 Accept new device 1 Switch on the card reader and wait a few minutes until you see payleven on the screen. Log in to the app with the email and password you created when registering at www.payleven.co.uk. 2 Switch on Bluetooth on your iphone/ipad under Settings > Bluetooth. Keep the Bluetooth settings open. 3 Press and hold the 0 button on the Chip & PIN card reader for 5 seconds. 4 Tap on the card reader s name when it appears in the iphone/ ipads Bluetooth settings. If the card reader s name does not appear, please start again from step 3 or contact our customer service. 6
Cancel 12345 Pair Transaction Settings Support Hotline Payleven123 12345 5 Tap on Pair in the pop-up box that will appear on your iphone/ipad. If you receive an error message, please start again from step 3. 6 Press button on the Chip & PIN card reader. The card reader should be listed as Connected in your Bluetooth settings now. 7 Now open the payleven app. Tap on the menu in the app and select Settings > Card reader. 8 Tap on the card reader s name that appears. The card reader is successfully paired once there is a behind the card reader. If the card reader does not pair successfully, please re-log in to the app. 7
Pair the card reader with Android E-mail: Password: 1 Switch on the card reader and wait a few minutes until you see payleven on the screen. Log in to the app with the email and password you created when registering at www.payleven.co.uk. Transaction Account Support Hotline 2 Open the app menu and select Account > Payment methods > Chip & PIN. Press OK. 3 Navigate to Account > Manage Terminals. 0 4 Press down the 0-button of your card reader for 5 seconds. 8
12345 Accept new device Cancel OK 12345 5 The card reader will display Accept new device. A confirmation code will appear on both devices. 6 If you do not see a code, press the red button on your card reader. Repeat from step 3 and tap on Start or contact our customer service. Press the green button on your card reader to confirm. 7 Tap on OK or Pair on the phone/tablet when it appears on the display. 8 The app will then register the device and after a few seconds the device will successfully connect to your phone/ tablet. If unsuccessful try again from step 3.do 9
Make a payment on ios & Android 3.50 1 Navigate to the payment screen in the app and enter the amount you want to charge. Press Continue or Charge and select Chip & PIN as payment method. You can add a description and photo. 3.50 Insert card 2 Insert a card into the card reader when the card reader states Insert card. In some cases, the card reader requires a signature to confirm the payment. It will then ask to swipe the card through the magnetic stripe card reader at the top. 10
Enter PIN 3 **** Ask your customer to enter the PIN and press the green button. You can cancel a payment by simply pressing the red button. To open a previous payment, resend a receipt or do a refund, please open the app menu and navigate to the Sales History. 4 When the payment confirmation screen is shown on your app, you can send a receipt to your customer via email or print it if you have a payleven supported printer. Try it now with a test transaction using your personal card (e.g. 1) 11
Additional payment information Open stored payments Information about your last payments will be automatically saved within the app. While you are entering a new payment, you can choose stored products by pressing the icon to the right of the description line (or in the top right corner for ios). Your payleven account Log in to your payleven account at www.payleven.co.uk/login. It allows you to monitor all your transactions, keep track of your employees sales activities, refund payments and recommend payleven to friends. Taking payments The minimum card transaction amount is 1 Do submit the full amount of the invoiced goods/service as one transaction, it is not possible to split up a transaction Don t give cash back from taking a card payment with payleven Do ensure that when you require a signature, it is a sufficiently close match to the one on the payment card presented to you Cash payments You can also manage cash payments within the payleven app, for free. Instead of choosing Chip & PIN as your payment method, select cash. 12
Good to know Re-pairing the card reader You may need to re-pair your card reader and phone/ tablet when: the Chip & PIN card reader is switched off, after suspension mode, if you change your phone or update the payleven app. Charging the card reader You can charge the card reader by using the USB cable that came with it. Simply connect it to your laptop or other USB power source. It takes approximately 2 hours for the device to fully charge. The battery status is displayed on the card reader s screen. Suspension mode To save energy, the card reader will automatically go into suspension mode after a couple minutes of inactivity. To reactivate the card reader, simply press the green button. Card reader is not connecting If you are unable the connect the card reader to your phone/tablet or it shows an error message please contact our customer service. We are always happy to help. 13
