SOMO improved its production, contrasting standardization and setting as main objective the manufacture of customized machines. The variety of proposed machines is extremely wide; range up to 6.750 tons forming units, and combined forming plants used for production of high allow pipes. The most impressive and recent installations consisted of automatic forming units for the production of pipes with diameters up to 1200 mm, 60 mm thickness and 12 meters length. Such plants are fitted with complete pipe manipulators for automatic handling. These forming units are fully automatic and can develop 500 t/m forming power. Dedicate pipe production bottom dies with automatic variable opening and with devices designed for extraction & reintroduction of the pipe material after rotation step, (under the forming unit) used to complete the work piece. Our production also includes the manufacturing of pre bending machines. [ [ Impianti di piegatura - Bending plants Fin dalla sua fondazione, avvenuta nel 1960, la nostra azienda si è specializzata nella costruzione di macchine per la lavorazione della lamiera, aprendosi verso un tipo di soluzione che in quegli anni aveva una valenza innovativa, almeno per il mercato italiano, introducendo gli asservimenti di tipo idraulico, dapprima sulle presse piegatrici e successivamente sulle cesoie a ghigliottina. Nel tempo la SOMO perfezionava la sua produzione, contrapponendosi alla standardizzazione e ponendosi quale obiettivo principale la creazione di macchine personalizzate secondo le esigenze più diverse dell utente, sempre conservando la razionalità strutturale e potenziando altresì sicurezza e affidabilità. Durante gli ultimi anni la SOMO ha acquisito una grande esperienza nella produzione di impianti di piegatura per la produzione di tubi di grandi dimensioni. In dettaglio, si tratta di tubi con diametro massimo oltre 2.000 mm. e spessori fino a 110 mm. con lunghezze massime di 18 metri. Gli impianti sono equipaggiati con manipolatori/accompagnatori per la movimentazione delle lamiere e utensili inferiori a cava variabile gestiti completamente dal controllo numerico. Since already its establishment in the year 1960, our company specialized in production of sheet metal working machines by opening towards a solution considered innovative in that time, with regard to Italian market at least, and by introducing hydraulic fittings, firstly on press brakes and subsequently on guillotine shears. As time passed SOMO improved its production by contrasting standardization and proposing to itself, as greatest purpose, the manufacture of customized machines according to most diversifed requirements of user, but always conserving the structural functionality and developing also safety and reliability. During the latest years, SOMO has acquired a great experience in the production of bending installations for the big-size tube manufacturing. More in detail, it concerns the tubes with a maximum diameter over 2.000 mm, thickness up to 110 mm. and maximum lengths of 18.000 mm. The installation are equipped of manipulators/tilting arms for handling the sheets and of a lower adjustable opening die which is completely managed by numerical control. MACCHINE PER LA LAVORAZIONE DELLA LAMIERA BENDING UNIT FOR THE MANUFACTURING OF STAINLESS STEEL TUBES Somo has realized a bending unit that consists of three bending machines combined in Triplex, meant for the production of stainless steel tubes having a maximum length of 12 m.

MACCHINE PER LA LAVORAZIONE DELLA LAMIERA It is a bending unit realized by SOMO on behalf of an Italian firm, specialized in the production of stainless steel tubes. Among the main features of this system, there are the great dimensions but over all, the software aspect of machine s operation management. It is considered a bending unit more than a real bending machine as the machine consists of three units put in tandem with a length of 4 m. and a force of 20.000 KN each one, for a whole length of 12 m. and a total working force of 60.000 KN

MACCHINE PER LA LAVORAZIONE DELLA LAMIERA As mentioned, this machine is meant for the production of stainless steel tubes, the target of which is just 12 m., for a workable thickness that exceeds even the 40 mm. The system is completely automatic in the sense that, initial positioning apart (which is effected through some manipulators), the remaining cycle is effected without the intervention of the operator,to whom is assigned only a control function. At start cycle, the sheet is correctly positioned in the machine thanks to some manipulator situated in front and on the back of the bending machine which just assure the ideal positioning of the size to be bent. When the positioning is ended, we can thus proceed to the execution of the pipe.

MACCHINE PER LA LAVORAZIONE DELLA LAMIERA The problems are linked to the automatic welding of the edges of the tubes. The specifications linked to the production, concern particularly the accuracy of the pipe that, in spite of its great dimensions, must be quite high, especially for final welding requirements. If the piece is not more that accurate during the tube closing phase it is possible to run into problems connected particularly to the welding which is made automatically, and this needs that the edges of the tube are approached in a quite accurate way. The optical rulers for the bending angle reading, join together a sliding ways system of the ram assembled on spring supports, assure the necessary degree of accuracy for this kind of workings.

MACCHINE PER LA LAVORAZIONE DELLA LAMIERA An extraction device withdraws sideways the pipe at the end of the cycle. In front of the machine, besides the manipulator which draws the sheet and positions it against the check rods so as to have always the right positioning, it is also foreseen an extraction device which, at the end of the working cycle, extracts the tube sideways. This one, in fact, rests on an opening die with variable width slot, element that allows to fit hydraulically the die to the different types of pipe to be produced, without having to replace it. During the extracting phase, anyway, some pistons placed under the die lifts the piece allowing to the extraction device to make the plate slid out of the machine without going to touch the slot of the die. Also this type of die for the pipe bending as well as the whole machine, has been designed well taking into consideration the requirements and, especially some indications supplied us by the customer in full collaboration.

MACCHINE PER LA LAVORAZIONE DELLA LAMIERA The three DNC and the PC are connected in the internal distribution network of the factory. The unit is equipped with three CYBELEC Numerical Controls connected together to an only Personal Computer which manages the whole machine s functionality. As briefly mentioned in opening, besides th t di i f th hi di i it i j t thi t the extraordinariness of the machine s dimensions, it is just this aspect that is worthy of a particular attention in that, the machine s operation is connected into a managing network. This means that the three DNC and the PC are connected into the internal network of the manufacturing company, allowing to have a constant control on the producing sequence of the piece, so as to be able to go back and to know its story : from the sheet which enters the factory to the tube which goes out finished, meaning the type of the workings carried out, the number of the lot, the day in which it has been produced and so on.

MACCHINE PER LA LAVORAZIONE DELLA LAMIERA It is also foreseen a selfdiagnostic system in order that, any trouble that may happen on the machine, can be found in real time allowing to intervene real time allowing to intervene just in time and thus avoiding excessive wastes in terms of unproductive times owing to the standstills machine, but over all, f t f t i l id i of waste of material considering the high cost of the type of steel used.

MACCHINE PER LA LAVORAZIONE DELLA LAMIERA The metal sheet is placed between the PLC controlled backstops directly against the two thrusters mounted between the shoulders of the press. After the first step has been completed, the press moves laterally and remains on the slide way. During the cross movement of the press, the metal sheet is raised by two pistons to prevent dragging. During bending the sheet metal on the bed is left free. 10
