Internal Medicine INTERNAL MEDICINE 5. YEAR Academic Year 2014 / 2015 1. Prerequisites Prerequisites for taking part in the course: fulfilment of all study requirements of the 3rd and 4th years Prerequisites for taking the exam: winter and summer semester credits must be presented before the exam signed in the credit book. Credit requirements: attending at least 24 bedside lessons. The knowledge of pathology, pathophysiology and pharmacology of courses in the 3rd and 4th year, as well as general pathology and general pharmacology 2. SEMINARS Doc. Miroslav Bulvas: Monday 4 p.m.-5.30 p.m. Auditorium 2.IK - pavilion S1, ground floor Students shall enrol for individual seminar teachers in the electronic enrolment system. Attendance is not checked at these seminars. The schedule will be posted up on the notice board of the Department of Internal Disciplines in Pavilion S during the first week of teaching. Students are also invited to attend the Great Seminars of Internal Disciplines, which take place in the Syllaba Auditorium in the building of the Third Faculty of Medicine of Charles University twice a month on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. The seminars cover major topics of internal medicine in a clear manner and represent the basic postgraduate study of young internists. Those who are interested may also attend branch seminars of individual working groups, e.g. of the Metabolic Group of the Second Department of Internal Medicine and of the Centre for Diabetes, Metabolism and Nutrition Research, seminars of the Third Department of Internal Medicine - Cardiology and others. A detailed programme of both great seminars and seminars of working groups is usually posted up on the notice boards of medical departments and on the faculty webpage. 3. CLINICAL INTERSHIPS In practical training, held by associated professors and assistants, the demonstration of the patients with the aid to get skills in taking anamnesis, physical examination of the patient, interpretation of laboratory and other auxiliary findings. Bedside teaching: 6x5 lessons out of all subspecialties of internal medicine (cardiology, nephrology, pneumology, diabetology and endocrinology, rheumatology, haematology and oncology). The internships take place: 1st Dep.of Internal Medicine, 2nd Dep.of Internal Medicine, 3rd Dep.of Internal Medicine Cardiology; Internal Clinic of Haematology FNKV, and with selected assistants and senior lecturers at Na Homolce Hospital, Na Františku Hospital, at IKEM and Geriatric Center Prague 8. Times for bedside teaching: after 1.30 pm based on your selection Duration of beside lessons: 90 minutes Subspecialty bedside lessons: block 1: weeks 1-5, block 2: weeks 6-10, block 3: weeks 11-15. Signing up for bedside teaching will start on September 18. It is strongly recommended to cover as many subspecialties as possible. Attendance forms: available from the secretary after October 1. Other requirements for bedside teaching: clean white coat, stethoscope, change of shoes depending on the instructions of a given hospital department. Students are reminded not to attend bedside teaching if suffering from a respiratory or gastrointestinal infection. Alternative dates for missed lessons may be arranged with teachers. CREDIT Credit will be given after all bedside teaching has finished upon presenting your attendance log to the secretary of the Department of Internal Medicine.Credits will grant: Doc. Kraml, Doc. Kment, Doc. Těšínský, MD. Hnaníček, MD. Hoffmanova. Confirmation of participation will be recorded in the internal medicine 5.r. sheet - teacher s signature and label. Recording will take place after each intership. Credit must be registered in SIS before the test. 5. EXAM FORM Exam form: written multiple choice test Exams: 4 terms in the period 15.5. - June 30, 2015 and two terms in the period 01.09-9.30 2015.
Registering for the test: electronically in the electronic record. Student must have credit before the test attendance. Signing off: a student may cancel their registration for an examination in the electronic enrolment system 1 week before the date of the examination at the latest. Those 5th year students who are leaving to study at a foreign university shall complete 30 study units within two internal medicine subdisciplines (10 units in each subdiscipline). An examination will be recognized provided the student has passed it pursuant to the rules of the university at which they study. It is recommendable to arrange details with the Department Head in person before leaving Literature: Parveen Kumar & Michal Clark: Clinical Medicine Anděl, CSc. 5.září 2014 Head of the Department of Internal Medicine Prof. MUDr. Michal Surgery To see personally the work of a surgeon in the surgical emergency. It is a part of the Module of Surgery taught in the fifth year of the study. Students will take a part in the surgical emergency during weekends, every time after a deal made with the teacher. Moreover, students can participate in acute operations performed at this time Weekend stay in surgical emergency is possible for maximally 2 students. Students can participate in work on emergency as well as in acute operations performed at this time. To get the credit: fulfill one-week stay (Saturday + Sunday) in the emergency of the department of surgery (100% participation necessary) during the whole academic year. The students must pick up the credit form (card) at the secretary of the Dpt. of Surgery Ms. Hamouzová. Orthopaedics Credit requirements of orthopedics: 1. Ultrasound ambulance Student must complete an internship at ultrasound clinic once during the academic year 2. Night service Student must pass the night shift at the orthopedic department once during academic year 3. Interactive casuistic seminars Each student completes 5 of 6 seminars in selected block (1. English curriculum, 2. Paedsiatric Orthopaedics, 3. Ortopaedics, 4. Spinal disorders, 5. Traumatology) in any week they choose.

Manufacturing facility Beznoska Kladno Džupa Cz It is an optional practical training (an educational excursion into the manufacturing facility, operating on sawbones bone models). You can substitute another two educational units by finishing these practicals. Students should register always no later than in previous week. The utmost number of students is 15. The meeting point is at 8,45 in front of the dean s office. White coat and clean shoes are needed for Practices. Tuition in fifth year continues to the theoretical block of Urology within NURG in previous year. To obtain the credit it is necessary to attend 5 courses from all. Choose them according your preference. Gynaecology Seminars Seminars (held on Tuesdays 14.30-16.00 p.m. in lecture-room of ÚPMD). During winter and summer semester will be organised 14 seminars. Maximum count of students of each term is 20 (minimal count is 3 students).
