1 Introduction Monitor is a Windows program, which can download the data from medical equipment. The data will be recorded on a worksheet format file with the extension (*.csv), and edited by Microsoft Excel. The output is displayed in high-resolution color trend format. Basic features : Real-time on-screen display of color trends of any parameters; Real-time on-screen display of selected numeric data (i.e., SpO 2, ETCO 2 etc.) ; Special features : Built-in event marker during data recording ; Time axis scroll back the data without interrupting the data recording ; Allow to view the waveform of a stored record file. Specification : The maximum number of devices connected 4 The sampling rate selectable, 1 ~ 10 seconds ; The length of the sampling data free capacity of hard disk. 3

4 Installation of the software Step 1 There are 2 installation disks. Insert Disk1 to the floppy drive and click the setup.exe icon to start. Or you can copy all the files in Disk1 and Disk2 to a temporally folder and click the setup.exe icon to start. Step 2 Double-click the icon setup.exe. Installation then begins and selects the installing directory by browsing, say d:\monitor. Then, double-click the option; Step 3 Installation completed, restart system. Step 4 For convenience, create a shortcut to the monitor.exe and drag on the desktop. Installation will create a folder for the Monitor program. It will also copy COMCTL32.DLL MFC42.DLL MSVCRT.DLL MSVCP60.DLL to the System folder in Windows if these files are not presented. To uninstall the program, just delete the monitor folder. Those DLL files need not to be removed. They are all standard DLL provided by Microsoft and in Windows 2000 and XP, these files are already installed by the system. 7
5 Operation/Procedure To evoke the program, double-click the Monitor shortcut icon on the desktop ; A Monitor screen is displaying on screen, Before connect the COM port to the device, change the captured parameters of each device if the default choices are not suited. By clicking the option Capture under the menu bar Data as shown below, take Narkomed as an example. 8
Then a small window containing all parameters within each device is shown ; 9
The parameter in the Column Name, Save, Display, Color and Display On can be changed. Just click it and modify Name Save Display Color Display On Signal name to be display on screen If selected, the signal value will be stored to file when recording If selected, the signal value will be displayed on screen Select the display color. Select the display region (different scale) for the signal. The changes will be stored up automatically and become the default setting The program can detect the number of COM ports available but limit to maximum of 4. Each of the COM port listed can be used to connect to one device. For example, select AS3 Datex for COM1 If the AS3 Datex is connected to COM1. Datex AS3 is shown on the status bar at the bottom of the screen and real time signal data began to display on screen. If there is any problem, a Red dot will be displayed instead. 10
Sampling rate can be changed by clicking the command Sample Rate under the toolbar menu Settings, note that the default value is 5 seconds ; Repeat the selection for other Com ports for more devices. 11
Before record the data to file, other optional parameters can be input. Click Patient icon to edit Patient information ; Select the tag Operation Procedure for more information Clicking the command Record icon to start data recording to file 12
Specify a file name with csv extension as shown ; During data recording, the file name, e.g. Chan Tai Man.csv is showing on the top of the screen, and the control icons Pause and Stop are highlighted; During recording, click the Event icon to create event marker. Then a small window is seen on screen. Type the comments under the Dialogue box named Remarks ; 13
After that, an event indicator is shown on the top of the diagram in the upper portion as circled in the diagram below ; To view the event, just click it and it will be shown again on screen; Click and Drag the Scroll back button to view previous graphs beyond the screen display, 14
When data collection ends, click the Stop icon to stop data recording Pause Stop Pause Data recording Stop Data recording The stored data file can be view/edit by Microsoft Excel. 15
6 Additional features inside the Monitor program Simulation Mode The simulation mode allows the program to run without physical device connected. It allows the user to learn the operation off line. Under simulation mode, when a device is selected for the COM port, a file menu is displayed to select a source data file. The source data file for equipment is stored in the folder RAW. Debug On Debug on should not be used by the user. It is for program debugging only. Open Project Save Project It is rather clumsy to set the settings of the device every time within the same study. the Save Project and Open Project are used to simply the process. For fixed connections of devices. Save the COM ports connection to a project file which will assign the same device to the corresponding COM port when the project file is Open again. Restore Default Setting Restore the Capture setting to default value 16
Historical data This function is to view the waveform from a stored data record file Select the data file and click Open. Then the waveform will be displayed on screen. Use Scroll button to view waveform outside the screen Zoom In Move the mouse cursor to the scale on right side of the graph, click it to have a Zoom In view. Click the scale again in the Zoom in view bring it back to normal display. 17
7 Precautions The status bar at the bottom of the screen shows a green button, for the device when it is under normal operation. In case of any problem, a red button displayed instead. Check the connection and the device. The red button will change to green button after the problem is fixed. When recording, the functions Com, Sample Rate, Open Project, Restore Default Setting, Capture, Patient and Historical View will be deactivated. 8 Recommendations There are some suggestions to install more COM ports on the computer: For Desktop RS-232 Asynchronous Serial Cards, by Quatech Communication Products http://www.quatech.com/comm_main.htm#pcmcia DSC-100 2 Port RS-232 PCI Serial Board; 18
