Background Among many countries in the world, majority of them do not fully enjoy the value of sport. Korea is a country of the unique example whose status has changed from an aidrecipient country to a donor country, and now became a leading power in sport; Korea is striving to contribute to sport development in other countries and thereby their state development, and further contribute to global sport development and world peace. We believe that the future of the sport sector in each country rests on the leadership of the people in the field. Hence, as a way of returning the benefits Korea has received from the international community, the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, through the Korea Foundation for the Next Generation Sports Talent (NEST), began the Dream Together Master Program to educate next generation sport administrators in the developing countries to meet their needs of systematic development in the sport sector,. Dream Together Master Program The Dream Together Master Program aims to develop next generation sport administrators in the world, particularly, developing countries and Korea. It is also intended to consolidate international sport cooperation via global networking. The program provides an in-depth insight in the area of sport management serving as a way of preparation for leadership positions in both non-profit and profit sport fields. This program is operated by the Global Sport Management Graduate Program at Seoul National University (SNU), funded by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism through the NEST using the national sports promotional funds, in cooperation with the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC). Global Sport Management Graduate Program The Global Sport Management Graduate Program at SNU, which operates the Dream Together Master Program, offers the degrees of Master and Ph.D. in Sport Management. The Global Sport Management Graduate Program provides an integrated and concentrated approach to the study of sport management, developing knowledge and skills required to effectively and efficiently manage both profit and non-profit sport organizations. Coursework covers areas including sport management, governance, marketing, governance, communication, finance, law, and sport development. Seoul National University SNU has achieved a great deal in its history as the indisputable leader of higher education in the Republic of Korea. In addition, SNU ranked 37 th in the 2012 QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Ranking. It is the only institution in the world s top-50 universities that offers sport management degrees both in Master and Ph. D. level. Today, the university has sixteen colleges, nine professional graduate schools, one 2
graduate school, 135 research institutes and other supporting facilities. SNU offers its students outstanding cultural and recreational opportunities, and as the university is located in the global city of Seoul, students would have a wide variety of additional entertainment options available in the city. City of Seoul The Seoul, the capital of Republic of Korea, is a safe, exciting, and attractive city, packed with countless sights to see and places to visit from traditional royal palaces to trendy shopping districts. The Seoul metropolitan area contains four UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Changdeok Palace and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty. As a birthplace of K-pop and Korean Wave, Seoul has been voted as one of the most popular destinations by Asian tourists. Seoul also has legacy from hosting various international sports events such as 2002 FIFA World Cup, 1988 Summer Olympics, and 1986 Asian Games. During their stay in Seoul, students will have many opportunities to enjoy the city. Admission Eligibility Next generation talents among government officers or current sport administrators in public and private sport organizations in developing countries in Asia (Beginning from year 2014, the applicant pool will be gradually extended to cover all five continents including not only Asia but also Africa, Central/South America, Oceania and Europe) Hold a Bachelor s Degree or higher (No restriction on majors) Have sufficient command of both spoken and written English to take classes conducted entirely in English (Although TOEFL scores are not required for applicants, those scores are welcome.) Have potential and passion for sport management Be in good health both physically and mentally to successfully complete the program Application Procedure Deadline for Applications: May 31, 2013 Applications Review: June 1 ~ June 4, 2013 Interview (Phone or Face-to-face): June 5 ~ June 7, 2013 Announcement of Admissions Decision: June 10, 2013 5
Arrival Date: July 31, 2013 (Extra-curricular programs will be held until the regular semester begins.) Final Degree For those who successfully finish the program will receive the Master of Sport Management degree from Seoul National University. Language of Instruction All courses in the Dream Together Program are taught in English. Financial aid The Dream Together Master Program offers a full scholarship as well as living expenses and flight tickets. Program start The regular semester begins on September 2 nd, 2013. Beginning from August, extracurricular programs will be offered until the regular semester begins. Extra-curricular programs include a special Korean language course and Korean culture experience tours. The tours will include exploring Korean traditional heritage sites, visiting Olympic and World Cup stadiums, watching a Korean professional baseball game, experiencing K- POP culture and etc. Duration The program requires two academic years from September 2013 until May 2015. All students will stay in Korea until December 2014, and for the remaining 5 months, students will work on their thesis in their home countries.
