Connecting to Remote Desktop Windows Users How to log into the College Network from Home 1. Start the Remote Desktop Connection For Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 this is found at:- Star t > All Programs > Accessories > Remote Desktop Connection For Mac OSX install Remote Desktop Connection from here then open from the installed location. (See next page for other ways to start Remote Desktop) 2. Remote Desktop Connection Type amts1.amersham.ac.uk in the box and click Connect". You may be presented with a box asking you to verify the computer you are connecting to, if so click Connect. If you are asked for a password for your own name click the Use another account box
3. Log on You will now need to enter: Your domain name which is college\ followed by your college user name in the first box Your password in the second box: This will give you access to the college network including your P drive and O drive Next time you log on, your computer may remember the domain and you will just need to type in your user name and password. 4. Logging off Please remember to Log Off from the server properly by using Start (or Windows button) and then Log Off option. This will disconnect your session, leaving it free for other users. 5. Other ways to start the Remote Desktop Press the Windows key on your keyboard and the R key at the same time. The Run box will appear, in this box type the letters mstsc and click OK Or if you do not have a windows key on your keyboard, use the following instructions:- Windows XP: Click on the box. Windows 7: Click on the windows button button on the taskbar and then click Run and type mstsc in the and type mstsc into the Search programs and files box. How to log into the College Network from Home **If you have installed and configured Remote Desktop on this Mac previously, when connecting again from the same machine you need only follow the instructions from Part 3: Using The Remote Desktop Client** 1. Download the Remote Desktop Client Launch your Web Browser (Safari) and navigate to http://www.microsoft.com/engb/download/details.aspx?id=18140 Click the orange Download button This will begin the download of a DMG file. You can view the downloads progress by clicking the small downward facing arrow in the top right of your Safari window 2. Installing the Remote Desktop Client Once the download has completed, double click the DMG file to run it. You will be presented with a window similar to the one opposite. Simply double click the large package icon to continue.
Press Continue, then press Continue again, click Agree when prompted about the license agreement Select the destination disk you wish to install to (The default is nearly always fine) and then click Continue Click Install If prompted, enter your Mac credentials and click Install Software Remote Desktop Client will now be installed; this can take a few minutes
3. Using the Remote Desktop Client In most cases the Remote Desktop Client will now appear on your Mac s Dock. If not it can be found by going t: Go > Applications > Remote Desktop Click the icon on the dock or double click the icon in the applications folder and you will be presented with the following Window: Enter amts1.amersham.ac.uk in the Computer field and click Connect
You will then be prompted for your college credentials. You should enter: User name: Your College username Password: The password you usually use to gain access to College PCs Domain: You must enter the word College here Finally, if you see box warning about Certificates such as the one below, click Connect **Remember that now you have installed and configured Remote Desktop on this Mac, when connecting again from the same machine you need only follow the instructions from Part 3: Using The Remote Desktop Client**
