The department through its well
experienced staff has developed curricula and accredited by the most competent academic regulatory board in Tanzania i.e. National Council for Technical Education (NACTE). The Department has adequate human and physical resources including laboratories and workshops. Why Considering Studying at this Department Mechanical Engineering is the prime mover of any Nation Development. Nothing can be manufactured without the involvement of Mechanical Engineering. Due to fast increase of manufacturing industry, mining industry and oil and gas industry, the well qualified mechanical Engineers and Technicians are highly needed. These highly competent personnel can be obtained from Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology in the. The research works that are conducted at the Department cover energy and renewable energy, materials, manufacturing, engineering management, industrial engineering and innovation etc. Programmes of Study The department offers the undergraduate and ordinary diploma programmes. Ordinary Diploma There is one ordinary diploma programme that applicants can choose from: Ordinary Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Programme There is one undergraduate programme Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical Engineering Degree. Postgraduate Programmes The Institute offers the Masters of Engineering in Maintenance Management where a student can opt to take the mechanical engineering elective modules. Research o Final Projects During the third-year Diploma and BEng students develop their min research projects to apply their knowledge acquired through solving problems. Collaboration Research o The use of natural gas in Tanzania and neighboring countries o Industrial performance and remedial measure to existing problems o Development of new embedded systems in industries to enhance productivity o Assisting local innovators in achieving their researches objectives o Studying and improving working methods in engineering companies
