1.0 Our Our design architecture has been created to unify the University s visual communication materials and provide a consistent, professional, high-quality approach to managing our brand with consumers, stakeholders and key industry markets. By representing the University as one brand we build and leverage the University s brand equity and positioning as a world class leader in the marketplace. One University, One Brand. Considerations for the Design It is acknowledged that University entities have different marketing and communication needs and different target audiences. Therefore, it is important for any brand with such a diverse internal stakeholder base to allow for maximum flexibility in its designs, while still presenting the one strong masterbrand. The result is a design structure (architecture) that is robust, simple and flexible, taking into account the following design considerations: > Our brand characteristics > Need for consistency > Ability to be applied to different materials and maintain uniformity > Fixed location and representation of the logo > Standardised colour palette > Standardised typefaces > Standard placement of cover text (in the case of publications) > Maximum area for images and graphics > Defined photographic styles for hero images Components of the Architecture The design architecture has been developed so that key brand elements (logo, Seek Light positioning and titles, etc.) are always placed uniformly to create a consistent structure. This allows a space into which specific images and graphics can be placed to meet individual requirements. This provides a high degree of visual flexibility and freedom for each design while still ensuring it reflects the masterbrand. The example, right, shows the standard position for the logo, titles and support graphics within the design architecture. The design provides the owners with a large area into which their hero imagery or graphics can be placed (see shaded panel). This level of prominence enables the hero imagery and graphics to be the strong visual driver for all branded materials. Care should be taken on the selection and creation of these hero images and graphics as they form the main focal point of the design and visual communication. The hero images should have the level of production values and quality required to support the University brand and reflect our brand characteristics of prestige and excellence. For more information, see the section Imagery, Graphics and Illustration. In the design architecture itself, the University logo is always the lead-in at the top-left of the design. The title-text position has been placed at the bottom-third of the page to enable the maximum clear space for hero images and graphics. Support graphics and co-branding, where applicable, are always positioned at the bottom of the page as the sealer. Logo Title The Publication Title University Website Imagery Area Support Graphics
1.1 Usage When to Use It: The design architecture has been created for use on all above the line communication materials that require a level of design and branding. This includes brochures, banners, posters, advertising, reports and some display signage. Creative templates are available in InDesign and can be downloaded from the website at www./brand Corporate templates for basic reports, flyers and newsletters are also available in Microsoft Word. When Not to Use It: The design architecture is not applicable to functional and operational materials such as everyday Word documents, forms and contracts. However, the for logo usage, colour and typeface still apply. If you have any questions related to design architecture, please contact the Creative Services team, Marketing and Communications. subject to change. It is understood that not all images will work within a fixed space, therefore a number of design options are provided. Designers can use creative judgment to select the best crop and placement of the hero image/graphic to ensure the best result. The core brand elements of the design architecture: logo, text and support graphics, cannot be moved or altered and must remain as provided in the template. Images/graphics may also bleed off the covers on A4 and A5 materials but not DLs. Further, For further if enquiries the execution forms part of a suite of materials, all designs should utilise the same template Telephone: +61 8 8313 design. 5208 The use of multiple images on covers is not supported due to the blurring of the key visual messaging. It is more important to have a hero image supported by clean, simple text to entice the user to interact with the materials rather than clutter the cover. It is recommended that if you are having trouble with your cover, either discuss this with your local marketing contact or contact the Creative Services Manager, Marketing and Communications for more information. However, the order and size of the text may be changed if required. For example, the pre-heading can be deleted or moved to become a sub-heading, with the main title moving up to take its place. Think about the hierarchy. International Options On A4 publications an additional small title may be placed in the top right hand corner of brochures (see above). This addition provides maximum flexibility and readability for the title of the publication when it is placed in vertical display racks. The additional title should be kept to a single line of text and replicate the formal title of the publication but not include any secondary title information. This design is only available for materials used purely in the overseas market. Items that are used both domestically and internationally must use the standard design architecture. The template for this style of cover is available on request.

In pull-up banners this appears on the top right of the panel, not the top left as is the standard for all other marketing collateral. The website and Seek Light graphic remain at the base of the banner design architecture.
