TRANSNET PIPELINES TENDER NUMBER: PYP/W1/6/21/1646 DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKS: CONSTRUCTION OF THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM UPGRADE FOR THE FUEL HANDLING AREAS OF THE TARLTON DEPOT AND IRP REFRACTIONATOR ONLY INCLUSIVE OF DEMOLITION, CIVIL, STRUCTURAL, BUILDING, MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL SYSTEM SUPPLY, INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING PART 4: SITE INFORMATION 1. Description of the Site and its surroundings 1.1. General description Tarlton Site: The site is located at the corner of Rustenburg (R400) and Ventersdorp Road (N14). The GPS coordinates are 26 4'42.89"S, 27 38'24.30"E. The site can be seen in the image below: The existing Site Layout information is presented in Annexure C4.1. The site is split into six operational areas; these are the rail loading area, tank farm, IRP area, offices and workshop, road tanker loading and road tanker staging areas. There are in most cases fences separating these areas. The primary entrance to the site is on the N14. This entrance passes directly to the truck staging area then through the security check point and into the site. The first building within the site is the office area, further northwest is the workshop then northwest of that is the tanker loading station then the additive dosing station then the spill basin. Adjacent to the offices to the south west is the existing fire pump house and reservoir; this is within the tank farm area. Further south west is the manifold which is adjoined to the tank farm then the control room in the south west corner. The whole south west edge of the site is the rail loading area, there is extensive staging with a loading gantry and associated pumping manifold approximately south west of the spill basin. The primary tank farm is roughly central on the site and is all contained in a single bund. There is a pump manifold to the north east of the bund area. TRANSNET PIPELINES TENDER NUMBER: PYP/W1/6/21/1646 DESCRIPTION OF THE WORKS: CONSTRUCTION OF THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM UPGRADE FOR THE FUEL HANDLING AREAS OF THE TARLTON DEPOT AND IRP REFRACTIONATOR ONLY INCLUSIVE OF DEMOLITION, CIVIL, STRUCTURAL, BUILDING, MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL SYSTEM SUPPLY, INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING Finally there is the IRP area which falls between the rail loading, spill basin and primary tank farm towards the north of the site. This area includes a fuel processing facility as well as four storage tanks and a control room to the north west of the area adjacent to the spill basin. Cranage is likely to be required for the construction of the water tanks and the installation of some equipment into the pump house depending on the construction philosophy adopted. The space available in the area of this construction is limited however the buildings here are of limited height (Single story industrial construction). If there is any concern over the restriction of access for cranes, the relevant information should be requested immediately. 1.2. Existing buildings, structures, and plant & machinery on the Site This project is an upgrade on an existing facility and as such there are extensive existing buildings and facilities. There is a security upgrade being implemented on the site resulting in revisions to the site wide fencing, the entrance gates and guard houses as well as the office buildings. The available information for this upgrade is presented in Annexure C4.2. The interfaces for this project are the road and rail loading gantries, the tanks and the existing pumphouse and dam area. With regards to the gantries and tanks this information is presented in Annexure C4.3 and it useful for understanding of the scale of work required to fit equipment to these facilities. The available information for the pump house and reservoir is presented in Annexure C4.4 as there are to be temporary connections into the pumphouse, demolition of the pumphouse and demolition of and building in the area of the reservoir. 1.3. Sub-soil information There is extensive trenching required throughout the site as well as earthworks for foundations for the temporary and permanent tanks as well as the pumphouse and valve banks. There is an existing Geotechnical Report completed on the site and this is presented in Annexure C4.5. 1.4. Hidden services This project entails extensive trenching for installation of buried pipes; as such it is necessary to establish as much information regarding the location of existing buried services as possible. The available drawings are therefore presented in Annexure C4.6. Further to this, the drawings for the security upgrade in Annexure C4.2 should also be consulted. All trenching work should be discussed with the site operations team in project meetings before work commences as they have extensive knowledge of the buried services on the site. As discussed in the Works Information and other documents there shall be a process of exploratory excavations implemented to attempt to detect routing problems before the major trenching reaches an obstruction. In developing the design the available information has been used and trench paths planned to avoid underground services wherever possible. Where information is limited the assumed straight line routed between draw boxes and the like have also been considered and avoided where possible.
