Jabber account request Use this form. Or request a Jabber account by sending an email to videoconference@slu.se. Please include the following information. First Name: Last Name: Department: Title: Phone/Cell no: Installation Once we have processed your request you will receive an email containing your account info and a download link for the Jabber client. Click the link to start the download and proceed with installing the client. Note that you will need administrator privileges on your computer in order to successfully complete the installation. The Jabber PC client comes preconfigured and the only thing you ll need to do once the installation is complete, is to enter your username and password. In addition to the Jabber client you will also need a webcam and a headset. We recommend the following. Webcam: Cisco PrecisionHD, about price 3000:- SEK Logitech C920, about price 800:- SEK Headset: Logitech Headset H390 ClearChat, about price 300:- SEK Price exl. Moms. 2
Getting started Once the client is installed you can reach it through the windows start menu. (Start>Program>Cisco> Cisco TelePresence Jabber). If Jabber is already running you can reach the client from the windows taskbar (lower right corner of your screen, next to the clock). Log on to Jabber by entering the username and password which you can find in the email containing your account info and click Sign in. Overview Allways On Top: Keeps other windows from overlapping the client. Status: Sets your status, Online Away Busy Appear Offline. Selfveiw: Opens up the videoconference window and displays the image from your camera. 3
Settings: Here you can find advanced settings, such as, if Jabber should use the computer speakers or your headset for audio output. Start: Calls the selected contact. Search: When you type something in the search field Jabber looks for matching entries in the central phonebook. Here we have searched for Johan. Add to my favorites: Saves the contact to the Favorites tab. Favorites & History: Here you ll find your saved contacts as well as your recently made and missed calls. 4
The videoconference window Once you have established a call to a contact or a videoconferencing bridge the videoconference window opens. You can access the quick menu by hovering your mouse pointer over the videoconference window. Selfview: See yourself in a small window. Mute Picture: Turns off your camera. Mute microphone: Turns off your microphone. Volume: Increase or decrease the volume of the other participants. Maximize: Sets the videoconference window to fullscreen. Share: Share an open application, for example a powerpoint presentation. End: Disconnects you from the videoconference. 5
Multipart meeting/video bridge: If you are about to participate in a multipart meeting, usually, you will have to connect to a videobridge(mcu). SLU s videobridges, mcu@slu.se & mcu2@slu.se If you have booked a meeting room in SLU s videobridge you connect to it by calling mcu@slu.se or mcu2@slu.se. You can then navigate to your meeting room with the up & down arrows on your keyboard and then press the right arrow to enter the selected room. PIN code: Some meeting rooms are protected with a PIN code. If you are to participate in a PIN code protected meeting the MCU will prompt you to enter the code when you try to join the meeting. You can do this by using the number keys on your keyboard and finishing by pressing the hash (#) or pound ( ) key. On a keyboard with a Swedish layout the key combination to for entering # is Shift+3. 6
Troubleshooting: P: No sound from my headset or the sound is coming from my pc speakers. S: Wrong audio output device selected. In the main window in Jabber (Where you can see the Favorites tab, etc.) you ll find the Settings icon. Click it and go to Quick Setup. Find the Audio output box to change and test the audio output device of your choice. P: The other participants in the video meeting can t hear me. S: Wrong audio input device selected. In the main window in Jabber (Where you can see the Favorites tab, etc.) you ll find the Settings icon. Click it and go to Quick Setup. Find the Audio input box to change and test the microphone of your choice. P: The other participants in the video meeting see me. S: This can be due to a number of different things, below you will find the most common solutions. 1, Make sure that your webcam is properly connected. 2, In the main window in Jabber (Where you can see the Favorites tab, etc.) you ll find the Settings icon. Click it and go to Quick Setup. Find the Camera box to select and test the webcam of your choice. 3, If you only get a black image from your camera in Quick Setup make sure that the webcams driver is correctly installed. P: I cant call IP numbers saved in my Favorites tab S: You need to add @ before the IP number 7
