.0 General 1.1 The 3M Quick Connect System (QCS) 2810A cross-connect terminal block consists of the 10-pair 2810 terminal block with installed label holders for pair numbering, single pair jumper caps for hand termination of jumper wires on the front or jumper side of the block, and 5-pair covers for securing terminated feeder and distribution conductors on the back or cable side of the block. The block will accept 22 and 24 AWG plastic insulated jumper wire on the front or jumper side, and 22-26 AWG plastic insulated conductors on the back or cable side. The 2810A system requires use of punchdown tool for cable side termination. 1.2 The 3M Quick Connect System (QCS) 2810B cross-connect terminal block consists of the 10-pair 2810 terminal block with installed label holders for pair numbering, single pair jumper caps for hand termination of jumper wires on the front or jumper side of the block, and single pair caps for hand termination of feeder and distribution conductors on the back or cable side of the block. The block will accept 22 and 24 AWG plastic insulated jumper wire on the front or jumper side, and 22-26 AWG plastic insulated conductors on the back or cable side. 2.0 Recommended Installation Procedure for 2810A and 2810B Systems 2.1 Mount frames vertically to supports in cabinet or pedestal. Route feeder and distribution cables into the frames. Using tie wraps, secure cables to frame sides or back, fanning out binder groups above the frame positions where they will be terminated. Be sure to leave adequate length in binder groups to allow slack for possible future maintenance activities. Note: Depending on the specific installation (crossconnect cabinet, NID, etc.) the frame may be integrated into the application. 3
Using Frame: 3M Quick Connect System (QCS) 2810A Block on Frame 2.2 Mount the first block to the frame with the 5-pair covers facing out and oriented so the covers open down. 2.3 Fan wires into the block from above, leaving enough slack to allow future reentry to the cable side if necessary. Be sure wires extend at least 5 cm (2 in) past block to allow removal of cutoff wires after termination. 2.4 Use the 3M Punch-Down Tool 2810 or the standard tool 3M Punch-Down Tool SOR-OC to terminate cable conductors and cut off excess. See above for correct orientation and positioning of tool to ensure correct termination and cut-off. After terminating conductors and removing excess wire, close 5-pair covers, making sure they latch firmly to body. 2.5 Remove block from frame. Rotate block 180. backward and remount in same frame position with 1-pair jumper caps facing out. 3M logo on cap is in right-side up orientation. Push block firmly into place on frame. Cable pairs should now enter back side of the block from below. Repeat until all feeder and distribution blocks have been terminated and mounted to frame. Using Frame: 3M Quick Connect System (QCS) 2810B Block 2.6 Mount the first block to the frame with the label holders facing in and the single pair caps facing out and oriented so the caps open down. 4
.7 Fan wires into the caps from above, leaving enough slack to allow future reentry to the cable side, if necessary. Open cable pair cap by pushing down on latch and rotating down. Cut cable wires to length. Insert cable wire ends A (tip) left and B (ring) right into the wire openings in cap, making sure they are inserted all the way to the back of the cap. 2.8 While holding the cable wires in place, close the cap and press to snap latch firmly into place 2.9 Terminate additional cable wires by repeating the above procedure. 2.10 Inspect wires for correct routing. Be sure caps are snapped firmly into place. 2.11 Remove block from frame. Rotate block 180 backward and remount in same frame position with 1-pair jumper caps facing out. 3M logo on cap is in right-side up orientation. Push block firmly into place on frame. Cable pairs should now enter back side of the block from below. Repeat until all feeder and distribution blocks have been terminated and mounted to frame. 3.0 Jumper Running 3.1 Open feeder pair jumper cap by pushing up on latch and rotating up. Insert jumper wire ends A (tip) left and B (ring) right into wire openings in cap, making sure they are inserted all the way to the back of the cap. 3.2 While holding the jumper wires in place, close the cap and press to snap latch firmly into place. 5
.3 Route jumper wires to distribution pair through wire loops on block ends and through vertical and horizontal wireways. Cut jumper wires to appropriate length, leaving at least 5 cm (2 in) of slack. 3.4 Terminate the jumper wires to the distribution pair by repeating the procedure described in steps 3.1 and 3.2. 3.5 Terminate additional jumper wires by repeating the above procedure. 3.6 To remove jumper wires, open the cap and pull wires straight out from block. 4.0 Testing 4.1 Testing using the 3M Pair Test Probe 2827. 4.2 To test, insert probe onto cap as shown. Black lead to the left and the red lead to the right.testing does not interrupt the circuit. 6
.0 Accessories 5.1 Accessories include frames of various sizes for mounting in cabinets or pedestals; a pair test probe for testing pair circuits on installed blocks;priority caps for identification of special circuits; the 3M Punch-Down Tool 2810 and the standard tool 3M Punch-Down Tool SOR-OC for termination of feeder and distribution cable pairs on 3M Quick Connect System (QCS) 2810A Blocks.
