5 Introduction This Staff Guide provides instructions on using the Model 890 software, officially named the 3M Stats and Status Software for 3M Detection System Model 8900 or Copyright 2009, 3M. All rights reserved. 1

7 Logging on and off Log on Complete the following procedure to log on to the server software. 1. Launch the server software on the server PC using either the: Desktop icon Start menu By selecting 3M > 3MSSS > 3M 8900/9900 Stats and Status Remotely by typing the following URL in your browser. PC IP>>: Enter your Login ID. 3. Enter your Password. 4. Press Enter or click Connect. The Main Menu appears. Copyright 2009, 3M. All rights reserved. 3

9 Monitoring Monitoring allows you to view activity on all maps, controllers and lattices in the system. Additionally, alarms and secured items can be monitored. Monitoring overview To access monitoring, click Monitoring. The Monitoring Overview window appears. This window shows the parent map for your system, as well as an overview of controllers and lattices. Copyright 2009, 3M. All rights reserved. 5

10 Monitoring The color of the Status icon next to each device provides a clue as to the state of the device. Green indicates no problem detected. Yellow indicates 1 problem detected. Red indicates more than 1 problem detected. White indicates that the device is not installed. Monitor maps Click Maps on the Monitoring submenu to view the parent map. Monitor controllers Click on a controller to jump to Controllers window with detailed information displayed for the selected controller. (Alternately, you may click Controllers to access the Controllers window with a list of controllers displayed, then select the desired controller from the list.) The color of the status icon indicates the state of the controller. Green indicates no problem detected. Yellow indicates 1 problem detected. Red indicates more than 1 problem detected. 11 Monitoring To view detailed information for a specific controller, click a Status icon. The following window appears. Various icons/indicators appear at the bottom of the window and represent statuses or convey additional information about controllers. java.vm.name Name of the java virtual machine running the controller. java.vm.version Version of the java virtual machine running the controller. runtime.availablememory Percentage of available PC memory. This value may change depending on computer usage. The color of this indicator denotes the memory status. 91 to 100 percent of system memory available. 81 to 90 percent of system memory available. 71 to 80 percent of system memory available. 61 to 70 percent of system memory available. 51 to 60 percent of system memory available. 41 to 50 percent of system memory available. 12 Monitoring 31 to 40 percent of system memory available. 21 to 30 percent of system memory available. 11 to 20 percent of system memory available. 1 to 10 percent of system memory available. No system memory available. runtime.freememory Amount of free memory available. runtime.totalmemory Amount of total PC memory allocated to the controller. runtime.freememory and runtime.totalmemory gauge icons These icons provide a visual cue regarding memory status. 91 to 100 percent of total memory. 81 to 90 percent of total memory. 71 to 80 percent of total memory. 61 to 70 percent of total memory. 51 to 60 percent of total memory. 41 to 50 percent of total memory. 31 to 40 percent of total memory. 21 to 30 percent of total memory. 11 to 20 percent of total memory. 1 to 10 percent of total memory. 0 percent of total memory. runtime.uptime Indicates how long the controller has been running. 8 Copyright 2009, 3M. 13 Monitoring Monitor lattices Click on a lattice to jump to Lattices window with detailed information displayed for the selected lattice, or click Lattices to access the Monitoring: Lattices window (shown below), which displays a list of lattices. Copyright 2009, 3M. All rights reserved. 9

14 Monitoring Click on the Status indicator for a lattice to access detailed information about that lattice. On the detail screen, various icons/indicators represent system statuses, or convey additional information about lattices. Update Period (ms) - How often the lattice sends read tag data to the controller. Noise Bottom Noise on the bottom antenna. Noise Center Noise on the center antenna. Noise Top Noise on the top antenna. Note: As long as antenna noise level is green, the antenna is fine. Typically, noise remains in the 5-7% range. If noise exceeds 50%, a yellow indicator appears. The tag signal must exceed the antenna noise level to be recognized. Patron Count The patron count for the lattice. This value is reset at midnight. Downtime If other than zero, the amount of time since the system last received data from the lattice. The color of the Status icon indicates the state of the controller. Green indicates no problem detected. Yellow indicates 1 problem detected. Red indicates more than 1 problem detected. White indicates that the device is not installed. Uptime Amount of time since the last restart of the driver that manages the lattice. 10 Copyright 2009, 3M. All rights reserved.

15 Monitoring Monitor alarms & secured items Click Alarms & Secured Items to view the list of incidents which set off an alarm. Secured Items are identifiable items that set off a lattice alarm. The list can be filtered by adjusting the values in the Filter fields, then clicking Filter. Note that the following filter date fields are required. You may enter dates manually or click the calendar icon and select a date. Start Date End Date The Update SIP Information column contacts the Library s Management System to update the title of the item. To delete an alarm or secured item, select the alarm or secured item, then click Delete. To delete the entire list of items, click Delete under Management. Copyright 2009, 3M. 17 Reporting The main Reporting tab allows you to generate custom reports. To generate a report, complete the following procedure. 1. Click Reporting. The main Reporting tab appears. 2. Specify the type of report you want to generate using the fields provided. Note that fields marked with an asterisk are required. Type of Report Select the type of count to include in the report. a. Alarm Count Number of alarms generated during the specified period. b. Patron Count Number of patrons counted during the specified period. c. Secured Items Number of secured items that caused an alarm during the specified period. Secured items are identifiable items that generated an alarm. Start Date/End Date Date range for the report. You may enter dates manually or click the calendar icon and select a date. Branch(es) Branch(es) to include in the report. Location(s) Location(s) to include in the report. View Select Text or Graph. Grouping Select Day of Week or Hour. When Hour is selected, Start Hour and End Hour fields appear. Copyright 2009, 3M. All rights reserved. 13

18 Reporting Format Select an output format for the report. Supported formats include.pdf,.txt,.rtf and.csv. Note: If you purchased the Item ID version of the system, reports display an item identifier and title for each detected secured item. If you purchased the Non-Item ID version of the system, reports display Unread Memory instead of an item identifier for each detected secured item. 3. Click Create. 19 Warranty Effective One Year Library Systems Product Performance Guarantee: Subject to the Limitation of Liability below, 3M guarantees your satisfaction with the performance of any 3M Library System Product for 12 months from the date of installation provided that a) you are the original purchaser: b) you have executed a one (1) year 3M Service Agreement for maintenance of the Library System product; and c) the product has not been subjected to abuse, misuse, accident or neglect. Performance means the product meets 3M published product specifications. If you are not completely satisfied with the performance of your Library System Product, you may return the Library System product for a prompt refund. 3M will pay all reasonable de-installation and shipping charges to return the product to 3M. Note that all claims under this guarantee must be submitted to 3M within 12 months from the date of installation of the 3M Library Systems Product. Failure to submit a claim within this time frame will invalidate this guarantee. IMPORTANT: Consumables and non-3m branded products are excluded from this Guarantee. Warranty and Limited Remedy for Non-Software Library Systems Products Not Covered by Performance Guarantee: Unless stated otherwise in 3M product literature or packaging, 3M warrants that each 3M Library Systems Product meets the applicable specifications for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of shipment (or, in the case of hardware installed by 3M, from the date of installation). Any warranties related to 3M software are contained in separate 3M software licenses. Consumables and non-3m branded products are excluded from this Warranty and Limited Remedy. 3M MAKES NO OTHER GUARANTEES, WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OR CONDITION OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE OR ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OR CONDITION ARISING OUT OF A COURSE OF DEALING, CUSTOM OR USAGE OF TRADE. You are responsible for determining whether the 3M product is fit for a particular purpose and suitable for your application. If the 3M product is defective within the warranty period and provided that a) the product has not been subjected to abuse, misuse, accident or neglect and b) you have notified 3M within thirty (30) days after the defect was discovered, your exclusive remedy and 3M s and seller s sole obligation will be, at 3M s option, to replace or repair the defective 3M product.
