While the most blatant form of plagiarism is copying another's entire paper word for word, it also includes using another's sentence, paragraph, or ideas without giving credit to that individual (i.e. without providing a reference). Rule of thumb: When in doubt, cite the original author. If the instructor discovers an instance of plagiarism, the student will receive a failing grade for the assignment, and may even receive a failing grade in the course (depending on the severity of the infraction). All written work is subject to plagiarism detection software review. Identified instances of cheating or plagiarism will follow the Academic Integrity statement in the Syllabus.
