The Ontario Stone, Sand & Gravel Association is continually looking to meet the needs of its membership and the industry at large. OSSGA is offering industry expert-led training, tours and seminars as well as certified training courses. Delivery of training varies from course to course. Industry Expert Led Education is delivered by competent industry experienced individuals. Certified Training is led by experienced and government qualified instructors. These programs include both theory and practical training. Certified Training SURFACE MINING COMMON CORE TRAINING *Mandatory for all who work on a site This program is intended to train anyone working on a Surface Mining Site. The Occupational Health and Safety Act and Surface Miners Training Standard states that anyone working on a Surface Mining Site must have Surface Mining Common Core Requirements Training. Duration: 1 Day (6-8 hours) Overview: Recognizing and avoiding hazards specific to a Surface Mining Environment. Safe practices such as: 3 Core Modules (U5030, U5031, U5032) Lock Out/Tag Out Fire Extinguisher Procedures for Small Fires Personal Accountability Operating Power and Hand Tools Climbing, Handling and Working from Ladders and Scaffolding Importance of PPE and Wearing it Properly How to Handle Basic Medical Emergencies Anyone working on a Surface Mining Site. Documentation: Documentation of attendance will be issued for each participant who has successfully completed the course. GENERIC FIRST LINE SUPERVISOR TRAINING *Mandatory for all supervisors This program is intended for supervisors directly employed by a Surface Mining Company who supervise workers on the surface of an operation. Duration: 1 Day (8 hours) Overview: Definitions Sand & Gravel, Quarry, Recycled Aggregate, Products and more Aggregate Licensing Rehabilitation Staffing Aggregate Processing Stripping, Drilling, Blasting, Crushing and more Delivery of Product Quality Control and Specifications Controls, Obligations and Best Practices This course is designed for those new to the aggregate industry, with minimal aggregate experience (non-aggregate functional role), employees transferred into the aggregate division and those seeking an increase in aggregate knowledge. OSSGA OPERATIONS & SERVICE TRAINING This full-day, on-site training session focuses on back to basics and safe operation of a wide range of plant equipment. Designed for both novice and experienced plant equipment operators, this training will address the importance and application of proper and regular maintenance. Duration: 1 Day (6 hours) Training Stations: Generator Safety Loader Circle Check Belt Maintenance Getting the most out This course is designed for new and experienced site workers. OSSGA QUALITY CONTROL TRAINING In-class, on-site and laboratory training will take attendees through key processes to address quality control. Attendees will learn best practices to employ good testing procedures and troubleshooting to ensure consistency. Industry experts will use case studies to help attendees learn good quality control processes and procedures. Duration: 1 Day (7 hours) This course is designed for employees of aggregate producers as well as contractors and consultants. All individuals seeking knowledge of quality control processes who are new to the industry, have minimal experience or individuals with experience wishing to increase their knowledge in best practices. OSSGA REHABILITATION WORKSHOP AND TOUR New this year is a full day workshop that focuses on best practices for planning and implementing rehabilitation that goes above and beyond the minimum standards. Learn from industry experts and find out the latest research practices from those in the field. Day two will be a tour of regional sites that have completed and in-progress rehabilitation. OSSGA OPERATIONS TOUR Get access to aggregate sites and supplier operations you wouldn t normally get to visit. The Operations Tour visits a variety of properties for behind the scenes tours. This tour welcomes every level of employee in the aggregate industry, whether quarry or pit manager, supplier of equipment and services or government member. ENVIRONMENTAL WORKSHOP This two day workshop covers a wide range of topics and regulations that must be understood to effectively manage the environmental aspects of a site. Day one will focus on upto-date overviews of current environmental management requirements of a pit or quarry. Day two will provide a more in-depth look at specific environmental issues and attendee will select their topic path throughout the day to better target their needs and interests.
