Redelegate your domain to Office 365 If your company already has a vanity domain, as a global administrator, you can configure it to work with your Microsoft Office 365. This process is referred to as domain redelegation. Domain redelegation enables you to create email addresses, Microsoft Lync Online accounts, and distribution lists that use your own domain name. You can also use your domain to host a website on Microsoft SharePoint Online. Notice! The domain we mention here is your internet domain i.e. mycompany.com this has nothing to do with your active directory. To use your vanity domain with Office 365, you add your domain to Office 365, and then create certain DNS records at your domain name registrar (or DNS hosting provider). This document describes how to add and verify your domain with Office 365, and then how to create the DNS records that are required to route domain traffic to your Office 365 services, such as the DNS records that are required for routing inbound email to Microsoft Exchange Online. Before you can add a domain, you must already have a registered domain name. The steps you go through are (details follow further down): You add your domain to Office 365 Verify that you own the domain, and then Configure DNS records for the services that you have purchased. One option with redelegation is to use your vanity domain with only some Office 365 services, and use a third-party provider to host other services for that domain. For example, you might use your domain for Exchange Online and Lync Online, but host your website with another provider. Unless you have an on-premises DNS service so the name server for your domain is on premises, before you can redelegate a domain, you must own the domain name and have the sign-in credentials needed for your domain registrar. If you don t have the sign-in credentials, contact the person who registered the domain.
About redelegation Domain redelegation is the process in which you tell your current domain registrar (the company responsible for your domain records) to associate your domain name with the email services, web services, and so on that are hosted at a different provider. Although you configure your domain to work with the Office 365 services, you will maintain your billing relationship with your current domain name provider. After you add and verify your domain by using the steps described in this topic, Office 365 lists for you the DNS records that you ll create at your provider to use Office 365 services. For example, you ll be shown the DNS records that you must create so that inbound email for your domain is sent to Microsoft Exchange Online. Caution If you let your domain expire by not paying your domain registrar to renew it, your Office 365 services will no longer work. For example, email won t be delivered, Lync Online won t work, and so on. Your domain registrar will notify you when your domain registration is about to expire. Add and verify a domain To add a domain to Office 365 please follow the steps below, they are done on these 3 pages: Atea eshop/ateadirect (where you made the subscription) On your domain name registrar site (the website of the company that you purchased your domain from) On your Office 365 admin page (login from www.office365.com) If you are currently using custom domains in Microsoft Business Productivity Online Standard Suite, you cannot add the same domains to Office 365. The domain redelegation can only be done by users of eshop/ateadirect who has the Office 365 administrator role 1. Login to eshop/ateadirect and click Office 365 on the left menu 2. One the top right click Users and domains 3. Click Add domain on the left side of the pop up 4. On the Add a domain page, under Specify domain, type the domain name that you want to add, and then click Next, your domain is being added to our, but not yet externally. 5. Click Verify domain.
6. Now you need to copy the CNAME record that we display, into your administrator console. This will make Microsoft able to check that you are the owner of the domain you have specified. Follow the instructions and contact your domain registrar (the company that sold you the domain). Option 1: To add a TXT record to verify your domain in Office 365, do the following. a. Sign in to your domain name registrar s website, and then select the domain that you re verifying. b. In the DNS management area for your account, select the option to add a TXT record for your domain. c. In the TXT box for the domain, type or paste the Alias or Hostname that you recorded in step 6 on Atea eshop/ateadirect. d. In the Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or Points to box, type or paste the Destination or Points To Address that you recorded in step 6 e. Where it asks for TTL information, type 1 to set TTL to 1 hour. f. Save your changes, and then sign out of your domain name registrar s website. Option 2: If you prefer, you can instead create an MX record to verify your domain in Office 365. To create an MX record to enable Office 365 to verify your domain, do the following. a) Sign in to your domain name registrar s website, and then select the domain that you re verifying. b) In the DNS management area for your account, select the option to add an MX record for your domain. c) In the MX box for the domain, type or paste the Alias or Hostname that you recorded in step 6. d) In the Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or Points to box, type or paste the Destination or Points To Address that you recorded in step 6. e) Where it asks for TTL information, type 1 to set TTL to 1 hour. f) Where it asks for a priority (or preference), type a number that is larger than the number you ve specified for existing MX records. This can help prev ent the new MX record from interfering with mail routing for the domain. Instead of a priority, you may see the following options: Low, Medium, High. In this scenario, choose Low. g) Save your changes, and then sign out of your domain name registrar s website. 7. After you create either the TXT record or the MX record and sign out of the website, return to Office 365 to verify the domain.
Configure your domain for use with Office 365 services After your vanity domain has been added (on Atea eshop/ateadirect) and verified (on your domain name registrar site), you must configure your domain. This is done on the Office 365 website (www.office365.com) and your domain name registrar site. 8. To configure the required records, click Configure domain. 9. On the Admin page, in the left pane, click Domains. 10. Click the domain name that you want to verify, and then click the DNS settings tab. The DNS settings page lists the DNS records required to enable your domain to work with your Office 365 services. 11. At your domain name registrar site, add the required records to your DNS file. Note After you have finished adding the DNS records to your domain, it can take up to 72 hours for the changes to take effect. If you need to view these record settings again, on the Domains page, click the domain, and then, on the Domain properties page, click the DNS settings tab. 12. To check the status of redelegation for your domain, on the Domains page, click the domain, and then, on the Domain properties page, click Troubleshoot domain. Specify the services you ll use with your domain You might want to specify the services with which you plan to use your domain in Office 365. This is called the domain intent for the domain. You can specify a domain intent of Microsoft Exchange Online, Microsoft Lync Online, or Microsoft SharePoint Online, or certain combinations of those services. There are only certain scenarios in which you must specify a domain intent for the domain. In these scenarios, you must specify the domain intent so that Office 365 will display the appropriate DNS records for the services that you plan to use and enable you to change them. You must specify a domain intent in the following scenarios:
If you want to use your domain to host a public website on SharePoint Online (i.e. with P1) If you want to create a SharePoint Online public website that uses your domain, you must choose a domain intent of SharePoint Online. However, you cannot choose a domain intent of Exchange Online or Lync Online if you have specified SharePoint Online for your domain intent. If you added your domain by using the Microsoft Online Services Identity Federation Management tool, and you want to use your domain with any Office 365 services. To specify the domain intent for your domain, do the following. 1. On the Office 365 Admin page ((www.office365.com), in the left pane, click Domains. 2. Click the domain name for which you want to specify the domain intent, and then, on the Domain properties page, click Edit domain intent. 3. Select the services for which you ll use the domain: Exchange Online or Lync Online, or both; or SharePoint Online. 4. Click Save.
