53 16. What licenses do I need for the software that I run on my VPS? Note that both for Windows and Linux, Belgacom is only providing the license of the underlying OS, and the end user remains responsible to obtain and report all the licenses for the applications installed on his VPS. If you are running a Linux VPS, consult the license policy of the application you are installing. If you are running a Windows VPS, and are installing software from Microsoft then you need to purchase SPLA licenses for your software (eg: SQL server, Terminal Services, Sharepoint, Office, etc). Installing Applications licensed under other licensing schemes on a VPS (Per socket, SAL, CAL) is not allowed. Note that no additional licenses are required for the OS itself: The OS is licensed by Belgacom on a per-socket basis of the server, so there is no need for additional SPLA, SAL or CAL licenses for the OS. Note that SPLA licenses are issued per user per month, and need to be reported monthly to Microsoft. SPLA licenses can only be obtained through licensed Microsoft partners. 53
