Setting up your new Live Server Account Welcome to Remote Data Backups LiveVault Service. This document will help you set up the agent service on your server as well as giving you some guidance on accessing the Live User Interface and setting your backup policies for optimum results. Checklist Here s a handy checklist to use for the process of setting up your Live Server account. Complete a Customer Rate Plan Agreement (CRPA). When you request a new LiveVault account, we email you an agreement to digitally sign and complete. When you complete the document, the DocuSign service will automatically send Remote Data Backups a copy of the completed CRPA. You ll also receive a copy for your records. Once Remote Data Backups receives the agreement, our technicians set you up on the Live Service. The technical contact designated on the CRPA automatically receives an email containing the link to download and install the Live agent. PLEASE NOTE - You will need to be sure that any current Remote Data Backups (as well as any other online backup service) software is uninstalled from the server BEFORE installing the LiveVault agent. We will still have any backed-up data archived during the initial transition if you have been using Remote Data Backups Standard Server and have a current backup when you uninstall the agent software. Once the agent is installed, open the Live User Interface at https://rdblive.onlinebackup.com/ from any computer with a web browser. Internet Explorer is preferred. Use the Admin login and temporary password contained in your LiveVault welcome email to Log into the Live User Interface. Once you are logged into the Live User Interface, set up your backup policies, save the policies and let them run. Please Note: Because servers generally have a greater volume of data than regular PCs, your backup policies can contain a large amount of data. Sometimes this can cause the initial upload of your selected data to take a long time to complete. It is very important that you not cancel the initial upload. If you are not seeing the progress on your policies that you want, Please call our support staff at 866-722-2587. We can check on the status of your backup and help correct any problems or give you an update of progress.

Installation Details Your RDB Live welcome email will contain a link that will allow you to download and install the LiveVault agent on your server. Click on the link, use the login and password provided in the email to log in: Fill out and Accept the Software License and Services Agreement:

Change your Password, Add Contact Information and Your Secret Question then Click Next: Now you will see your Company and Administrator on the Interface. Click on Downloads:

In Downloads, You can Access Agent Installers and Utilities Select the Agent that is appropriate for your Server OS and click on Download: This will start the download and prompt a File Security Warning. Save the Agent Installer to the location of your choice:

Find your downloaded agent installer and Run it: Confirm that you would like to Run the Installer:

Click Next to view the Software License Agreement: After reading the Software License Agreement, choose I accept the terms in the license agreement to begin.

Once you have clicked to accept the terms in the license agreement, click on Next. You will be prompted to select the destination folder where you want to install the agent software: Note: If possible, we strongly recommend leaving the default settings in place as it becomes easier to find important files if the need arises. Once you have chosen the settings for your destination folders, Click on Next to proceed:

When you are satisfied with your selections and are ready to install the agent software, click Install. This is the screen you will see while the agent software is installing. Let the installer run to completion. When the install is Completed, Click Configure to Continue:

The Configuration Wizard Login: Enter your Login and Password information. Leave the Skip login for offline restore option unchecked. You should not need to worry about the Configure Provisioning URL and proxy settings unless you use a proxy server at your location. When you are ready to continue click Next: NOTE: If you require Provisioning and Proxy Setup we ve provided a screenshot to illustrate. Installation notes resume on the next page.

Now the Configuration Wizard asks you for the type of Server you are setting up Choose New server being added to the backup service : Click Next to continue. Configuration Option Choose Create a standard backup agent. Note: If you are setting up a CIFS-only Collector, be aware it must be installed on a separate Computer from the Server(s) you will be backing up. Click Next :

New Data Encryption Key Password Required: This password is the protection key for your backed up data. You will need it if you ever want to restore data to a different computer (such as in the event of disaster. There is also an option to have an encrypted copy of your password sent to the Data Center should recovery be necessary. This password can only be recovered by our support staff and only at your request. Click Next. You will see a Please wait box while the cryptographic key is being generated. When this is done, the Installer will bring you to the Configuration Complete screen. Click Finish.

Next, you will see a message to restart your server. If you need postpone the restart, click Cancel, Otherwise, Click OK to restart the server. If you choose Cancel, Please remember you MUST restart the server to complete the installation and move on to setting your Backup Policies. Congratulations! You are now ready to set your backup policies and begin using our superior LiveVault Server Backup Solution.

Backup policies are set up and managed through the Live User Interface. Selections, scheduling, status/log reports, backups, restoration and bandwidth capacity are managed in the UI.

Accessing the Live User Interface Once the agent is installed on your server, and the server has been restarted, you are ready to use the Live User Interface (UI) to set your backup policies and manage the properties for your account. To get to your Live UI, open an internet browser and navigate to https://rdblive.onlinebackup.com/. You can access the Live UI from any computer with a browser and internet connection. Use the Administrator login and password to log into the UI and configure your backup policies. Clicking on the + next to icon will cause the menu to expand. You will now see your user account and server. Click on your server, in the left hand pane, to enter the Live UI Summary Screen:

The first time you see this screen it will require you to create a new Backup Policy for your LiveVault server. Click on add new Standard Policy Use the Left Pane to navigate the location. Use the right pane to select data. Click Next

Now, you will see the selection details for the new policy. If everything looks correct, click OK. Under the Schedule Tab, you can set whether your policy is Continuous or Custom. If Custom, set your policy schedule. You can also rename the policy. When you are happy with your selections, and schedule, Click Next.

Under the Options Tab, you can Select Your Retention Policy, Set other programs to run before and after your backup and Disable the policy. When you are ready, Click Next. Finally, You re almost done. Confirm the Policies, Rules and Schedules you have set for the Policy. When you are happy with your selections, Press Done. Note: Please setup a new System State Backup Policy.

Yes! You are done with Policy Selection. Wait, not so fast. Go create a System State Backup Policy. Click on the add new Standard Policy link in the Right Pane. 1. Rename Your Policy to System State (Recommended, so you can tell it from your standard policies). 2. Check the box labeled Back up system state files 3. Click Next

Set your Schedule Options Click Next Set your Retention and Program Options. Click Next

Review your Backup Configuration Settings Click Done You will return to the Backup Tab. It lists your Policies and their status. If you have other Policies you would like to set. Click on add new Standard Policy.

Policy Guidelines Build multiple policies. Use multiple policies to allocate your data selections for standard policies into more manageable sizes and to avoid policy size limits. This also helps with bandwidth allocation. As smaller policies complete, more bandwidth becomes available to the larger policy(s). Set your System State backup to once daily rather than every 15 minutes. In addition to a simpler selection choice, should you ever need to recover a system state, this strategy leaves more bandwidth available for your larger data selection policy(s). Once you ve set up your policy(s) and they have started to run, be patient. The initial upload (especially on larger policies) can take some time. If you stop or edit the policy, it will start over and extend the initial upload time. The good news is that once the initial upload is complete, it will only be transmitting changes that have occurred to your data since the last backup. Other Resources The Live Help is a great place to start if you need help with any features or settings. Access it via the question mark in the top right corner of your Live UI. If you have any questions, please call our technical support at 866-722-2587. We are available 24/7 and will be glad to help you anytime.
