- Android Quick Start Guide
Configuring the URC Mobile app is simple. Follow the instructions below to ensure that the app is configured properly to control the system from within (local) the LAN and from an Offsite (external) location. **Offsite Control requires the URC Professional Installer to configure remote access within the Total Control programming software and the home router prior to using these methods.** Two Control Methods There are two ways to connect to your control system: locally or remotely. Local Mode: Your device must be on the same local area network (LAN) as the control system in order to communicate. The LAN may offer increased speed between your device and the control system. Also, using the LAN should help you to avoid any access charges. Remote Access: When you re not on the control system s LAN, you are accessing it over the internet/cellular network (remote access). Remote access offers communication with your system when not on the control system s LAN. This option provides the ability to use either method in order to obtain the best communication with your system. Let s say the LAN is slow or problematic, in this case you can connect via Remote Access (Refer to page 24 for more details.) Enable Remote Access 1. Open the URC Mobile app. (Read and accept the URC Legal Agreement if you haven t previously done so.) Once the URC Mobile app opens, it searches for an installed URC Control system on your local area network. Once found, the controller unit is shown along with its network IP address. 2. Select the unit to continue. Page 2
3. The URC Mobile app opens to its Main Menu. 4. Select the Settings icon within the URC Mobile app. 5. Press Settings to view its screen. Scroll down to reveal further options. Page 3
6. Touch Controller listed within the Offsite Control section. The Controller window opens to reveal system options. 7. Select the checkbox to turn ON Remote Access. 8. Press Controller to return to the main Settings page. 9. Press Settings to return to the URC Mobile main page. 10. The control system is now enabled and available for remote access via the Menu popup. Page 4
Controlling Your System (from an Offsite Location) 1. Launch the URC Mobile app. The app searches for the last control system used. If on the same LAN as the system, it connects to the control system and does not require a password. If not on the same LAN, it connects over the Internet or cellular service, provided the remote access was previously enabled (see prior section). If you would like to control a different system, select the profile location name from the Menu popup on the Main Menu. 2. When a system is accessed from an offsite location (remote access), your URC Professional Installer may have required a password to access the control system. Enter the password provided by your Professional Installer. This option is not required and can be turned OFF by selecting Remember Password within the Settings: Offsite Control section. 3. The control system loads and the URC Mobile app opens to the main menu. Page 5
Setting Your Local/Offsite Access Preference Easily switch between your local area network OR remote access (see above), like your 4G cellular network, to gain instant uninterrupted communication. The option selected becomes the default connection. Cellular charges may apply. 1. Press the Menu button. 2. Select the profile name. The app resets and displays the Access window. 3. Select an option: Local: Connect over your network. Remote Access: Connect over the internet or cellular network. If a selection is not made, the app automatically searches for the system using the current network selection. Page 6
