Welcome to the International Congress on Vocational and Professional Education and Training in Winterthur From 15 to 18 September 2014, the International Congress on Vocational and Professional Education and Training will take place in Winterthur, Switzerland. The congress is mainly aimed at an international audience. It s intended to be a platform for the exchange of information, contacts and discussions on the topic of vocational and professional education and training. The establishment of a dialogue should create better frameworks in view of an international cooperation in this field. The congress is also an opportunity to experience the Swiss vocational and professional education and training system first-hand. Winterthur as a Center of Education Winterthur has long enjoyed an excellent reputation as a center of education. The Technikum, a technical college that today is part of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), is a good example of Winterthur s educational institutions with a long history. The great Albert Einstein himself taught Mathematics and Descriptive Geometry there for several months in the year 1901. Further specialist institutions located in Winterthur include the Swiss School of Technical Training Winterthur, Swissmem Kaderschule und Berufsbildung (management and vocational training), Ausbildungszentrum Winterthur (Educational Centre Winterthur technical training) and Zentrum für Ausbildung im Gesundheitswesen (healthcare education).
