IDENTIFICATION BADGE During normal technology office hours you may collect your identification badge from the IT Support staff. You will be asked to pose for a picture to be used on the badge. The badge creation usually takes only a few minutes. Badges are currently used for access to the library, to check items out of the library, to print, purchase food in the cafeteria, and to make photocopies. WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS To connect to the SHMS wireless internet service, you will need a wireless network card and a web browser. After you have connected to the wireless service labeled SHMS on your Wi-Fi enabled computer and opened your browser you will notice a message requesting your username & password. Please be aware of Sacred s Policy for Acceptable Use for the Internet as indicated on the log in page. By logging in you accept the terms and conditions of this agreement. What do I do if I have a guest on campus that doesn't have SHMS credentials, but wants to connect to the SHMS wireless network?** Guests of the seminary that do not have SHMS credentials that would like to utilize the wireless network at SHMS are welcomed to register themselves using the "Sign Up" option located at the bottom of the login page. Clicking "Sign Up" will take the guest to a form were they will be asked to provide their first and last names, the company or group they are associated with, a phone number they can be reached at, an email address and will be asked to accept the terms of the usage policy. The guest can then self-register by email or by SMS (text message). SMS (text message) If the guest chooses "Register by SMS" a numeric access pin will be sent to the phone number used on the registration form. The guest will need to enter this pin into the following screen to gain access to the wireless network. **PLEASE NOTE** Due to a multitasking limitation of ios, apple devices like ipads and iphones cannot self-register using the SMS method. Email If the guest chooses "Register by Email" then the user will gain access to the network for ten minutes. During this ten minute period the guest will need to check the email account used on the registration form for a registration confirmation email. This email will contain a unique link that must be clicked to complete the registration. **The new self-registration replaces the need to contact the rector's office or library circulation desk to gain temporary access to the wireless network. What do I do if I have a device that I would like to connect to the wireless network that does not have the ability to use a captive portal, such as an Xbox, Roku, Internet enabled DVD player, Wii, Playstation, Kindle, Nook, etc...? Users with SHMS accounts are welcomed to connect non-"computer" devices to the wireless network by manually entering the MAC address (sometimes called "Machine Address" or "media access control" address) of the device in question into the gaming system registration page located here: https://packetfence.shms.edu/gaming-registration This page will first ask you to enter your SHMS credentials and accept the usage policy. You will then be asked for the MAC address of the device you will be connecting to the wireless network. Generally, the MAC address of a device will be printed somewhere on the surface of the device; however, the exact location of your MAC address will vary based on the specific device you are using. Please Note: While we make every effort to provide wireless access in all residential, library, and classroom locations, some areas in the SHMS facility will have stronger coverage than others. For this reason, if you have a wireless device with either an old wireless card, or a weak wireless card, you may experience intermittent connectivity in some locations. Testing the entire campus using an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Ultimate-N 6300 AGN wireless network card we were able to successfully connect in all residential, library, and classroom locations. Your specific wireless network card may produce different results. Technology Guide - 5 - http://support.shms.edu
