Summer International Youth Programs in San Diego 2016 Vacation Courses for accompanied Groups (14-17 yrs) Vacation Courses for Individual Students (14-17 yrs) www.experiostudyabroad.com

San Diego America s eighth largest city with a population of over 1.3 million, San Diego is an extremely popular destination for both business and leisure, attracting over 26 million visitors every year. Its mild climate and year-round sunshine make it an ideal location for outdoor sports and activities with surfing, sailing and golf amongst the most popular. San Diego is just a 2-hour drive south of Los Angeles and only 30 minutes from the border with Mexico. University of San Diego Founded in 1951, USD is one of the most prestigious private Catholic universities in the United States. Around 8,000 full-time students attend USD which offers over 75 undergraduate majors and graduate programs in its Schools of Business, Law, Leadership, Education Sciences, Arts, Sciences and Hahn School of Nursing. Since 2005, the English Language Academy at USD has been organizing a Summer International Youth Program for teenagers from all over the world who want to improve their English language skills, experience life on a beautiful US university campus and discover the delights of southern California. In the summer there are up to 200 residential students at anyone time from more than 10 different countries. The summer school runs for six weeks in July and August and is open to groups and individual students (14 17 yrs) for 2-4 week stays. Location USD is the most centrally located of the universities in San Diego with Old Town just a short walk away and Downtown just a 15-minute trolley ride from the campus. Fashion Valley is just one trolley stop from USD. From the campus itself, there are beautiful vistas over Mission Bay, Sea World and out into the Pacific Ocean. San Diego Airport (Lindbergh Field) is a 15-minute drive away. Campus Facilities The University is set in extensive, safe, attractive grounds with excellent residential, educational and sporting facilities. On campus there are large spacious playing fields, tennis courts, fitness centres, sports halls, a basketball arena and a 50m outdoor heated swimming pool. Students also have access to a variety of different cafés, snack bars and restaurants as well as the large USD campus store. WiFi is available in most areas of the campus. Housing Students are accommodated in the University s oncampus residences; these are typically small blocks of apartments. Each block contains 3 apartments with 4 twin bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a communal living space in each. Group Leaders are accommodated with their students. USD provides bed linen and towels and there is a laundry facility on campus. Each residence has a reception area with vending machines and a 24-hour security service is provided. Meal Plan On arrival, students are given meal cards for the duration of their stay which they can use in any of the various snack bars, cafés and restaurants on the USD campus. For meals during off-campus visits and excursions, students will receive vouchers which they can use in a variety of different food outlets.

Vacation Courses Vacation Courses at USD combine 17 hours per week of English language tuition with 3 hours of cultural workshops, sports, activities, events, local visits and excursions. These courses are for international students aged 14 17 who are visiting the US for a short period of 2 4 weeks. We welcome groups of students accompanied by a Group Leader and individual students. Timetable Students have morning English classes from 09:00 12:30, afternoon and evening activities and local visits with full-day excursions on the weekends. English Classes All students are tested on their first full day and subsequently placed in classes of no more than 10 students at an appropriate level for their ability. The lessons are topic-based and are designed to help students develop communication skills, natural English and a range of vocabulary. Materials have been specifically developed for these courses and include authentic resources. Daytime & Evening Activities In addition to the English language classes, students also attend 2 cultural workshops per week from 13:30 15:00, which cover topics specific to life in the US. The campus sports facilities are excellent and students are encouraged to play soccer, tennis, volleyball, basketball and go swimming in the 50m outdoor heated pool.
