OUR VISION...that all our students for whom English is not a first language have the opportunity to access our high quality English language provision so they can acquire the necessary communication skills to actively participate in English speaking society. This can be through study, in a work environment, or within the local community to enable all learners to fulfil their potential. Sutton and District Training have been delivering vocational training for 16 years and over the last three years have become a successful provider for the delivery of ESOL training for KS4 & post-16 learners. We understand that whilst endeavouring to accommodate the needs of our linguistically and culturally diverse students, competent English language skills are also central to giving young people opportunities to be successful and contribute to the society in which they live. Whilst the ESOL provision focuses on developing and assessing the four skills of Speaking, Writing, Listening and Reading, this can be achieved in numerous ways depending on the individual learner. We tailor courses to meet the needs of the learner and ensure they are given appropriately challenging tasks to enable them to positively achieve and progress. Furthermore all topics and tasks covered are specifically chosen due to their relevance to learners and relate to everyday work, further study and social situations. Our approach to considering and supporting the learner s individual goals and objectives in relation to what they want to achieve from participating in our ESOL provision means we have the capability to work with learners whose main barrier to learning is English but also have the expertise to work with learners who have further additional needs. The provision s overarching mission is that by the end of their time with us students have the confidence to use English to communicate and demonstrate academic, social, and cultural understanding. www.suttondistrict.co.uk 18
