Medical Assistant Health Sciences The Career Center will prepare you to become a Medical Assistant in a variety of health care settings including hospitals, clinics, multiphysician groups, private doctor s offices, and more. The program includes four 8-week sessions followed by a 160 hour externship, allowing you to earn your certification in as little as 12 months. Responsibilities of a Medical Assistant vary, so this class teaches a variety of administrative and clinical skills to handle any situation. Certified Nurse Aide Certified Nurse Aides are in high demand at numerous health care facilities, from hospitals to assisted living centers. Every month the Career Center offers a five week course with 80 training hours. Our experienced, practicing instructors will help prepare you to pass the Clinical Skills Competency test and become a certified C.N.A. in the State of Michigan. Health Sciences Phlebotomy & Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician In this class you will learn everything from basic cardiovascular terminology, anatomy and physiology of the heart, and the functions of the circulatory system. Our instructor will outline the responsibilities of Phlebotomy and EKG technicians and provide clinical laboratory opportunities to help you develop entry level skills including venipuncture, capillary draws, specimen collection for laboratory analysis, and the three most common EKG instruments, (holter monitor, 3-channel, and 12-lead single channel). Mondays & Tuesdays; 1/4-2/23; 6-9pm $700 Medical Office Assistant The medical office assistant is someone who has a strong desire to work in the growing and stable health care field, but who does not have an interest in direct patient care. This program will prepare students to work in an administrative capacity by teaching topics such as medical terminology, medical law and ethics, office procedures, electronic medical records, and medical insurance billing and coding. Start Health Sciences Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) This one-session, four hour workshop certifies you for an American Heart Association care for completing a basic life support course. Arts and Communication Digital Photography I This is the most basic digital SLR (camera with removable lenses) class available. This class will teach you the common functions of your digital SLR camera including, aperture and shutter control, depth of focus, lenses, flashes, and other accessories. Learn to improve your composition, people, and close-up photography skills.
