Freelance Public Health Consultant March 2011 September 2011 Technical Resource Facility (TRF), Pakistan TRF is a project funded by UKaid from the Department for International Development and Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), and managed by Health and Life Support Partnership (HLSP), UK. Developed with a team of international and national consultants a Knowledge Management strategy to support MDG 4 & 5 in Pakistan. This technical assistance was commissioned by TRF Pakistan. Research/Teaching Assistant July 2008 December 2009 School of Health and School of Rural Medicine University of New England (UNE), Armidale, NSW, Australia As Research Assistant, I did the literature review and helped in writing UNE Ethics Committee application for a research study titled Transition to university life: An assessment of health and well-being of undergraduate students. In the same role, I did literature review and provided technical input in the review and re-designing of Public-Health course including epidemiology for Year 1 students of Bachelor of Medicine Program jointly conducted by the University of New England and University of Newcastle, Australia. Furthermore, I was also involved in marking of assignments and assisting in delivering of courses to students enrolled in Bachelor and Master in Health Management. Program Coordinator June 2005 - May 2007 Technical Assistance Management Agency (TAMA), Islamabad, Pakistan (A Project managed by Options Consultancy Services, UK) TAMA assisted Government of Pakistan national health and population welfare programs to develop supportive policies, multi-year strategies and plans, and to improve their technical, organizational and systems capacities. TAMA was jointly funded by DFID and USAID and was managed by a consortium led by Options Consultancy Services, UK. 2

As Program Coordinator, conducted technical assistance (TA) needs assessment of seven national preventive health and population programs in all the four provinces and developed yearly TA plans. Supported the counterparts in developing terms of reference and scope of work for TA and managed TA to ensure quality of deliverables. Conducted monitoring and evaluation of consultants placed by TAMA with national programs/ministries. Reviewed and wrote technical reports, prepared working papers and minutes for TAMA Executive Committee (TEC) and TAMA Oversight Committee (TOC) meetings. Additionally, I fostered good relations with the program managers and officials of the Ministry of Health, and TAMA s external development partners regarding their programs technical assistance. I have represented TAMA in various meetings and seminars. Surveillance Officer July 2004 May 2005 Polio Eradication Initiative (PEI), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, World Health Organization (WHO), Pakistan As Surveillance Officer, I provided technical support to the district health teams for eradicating Polio by undertaking different activities such as field visits for unreported suspected polio cases, compiled surveillance indicators to improve surveillance and conducted detailed epidemiological investigations for suspected Polio cases. Provided trainings to the workers of Lady Health Workers Program and other health care workers on polio eradication activities. Provided feedback to the provincial health authorities and WHO regarding program implementation, conducted advocacy campaigns and assisted in the implementation of Polio eradication activities. District Program Officer (Health) May 2003 June 2004 National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), Karak, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan The National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) was established by the Government of Pakistan under Presidential Ordinance No. XXIX of 2002, with the mandate to carry out functions for improving the delivery of social services in the sector of health and education. As District Program Officer (Health), I successfully negotiated and signed the Primary Health Care Extension Project Partnership Agreement with the District Health Department. Selected two underserved areas for project implementation, established field offices, interviewed and recruited field staff and conducted base-line epidemiological survey in the project area. During this job, I trained field staff in different health interventions like immunization, child spacing and family planning, nutrition especially Vitamin A supplementation and promotion of iodized salt, maternal care, epidemiology and prevention of HIV/AIDS and Environmental Health. I also monitored staff activities in the field and provided technical backstopping, facilitated in project budget preparation and generated monthly progress reports for the Country Office. Project Leader Health Readiness October 2002 April 2003 Focus Humanitarian Assistance, Islamabad, Pakistan Focus Humanitarian Assistance is a global multi-faceted organization with a broad mandate to provide disaster management services. FOCUS is an affiliate of the Aga Khan Development Network and has presence in Canada, USA, Europe, India, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Pakistan. As Project Leader Health Readiness, I was involved in the detailed assessment of health sector readiness for any disaster in the program area (Northern Areas and Chitral). Presented the results of this assessment in a month long course on emergency preparedness. Organized a simulation exercise in which community and FOCUS search and rescue teams participated. Assisted in writing a project proposal for securing external funding. Represented FOCUS at a national seminar and a training course on Emergency Preparedness and Humanitarian Action jointly organized by the Federal Ministry of Health and WHO. 3

During this attachment I made a creative attempt to understand the organization structurally and contextually. At the end, I wrote a detailed report and made a presentation in my university on this placement. Medical Officer December 1998 September 2000 Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) Haripur/Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan WAPDA is a large public sector organization having its own health care set-up for its employees and their dependents. During this job, I independently managed the out patients department, prepared annual budgets, authorized medical leaves and proposed medical boards for permanently disabled employees. As part of my duty, I also conducted health education sessions for WAPDA employees and their families.
