Busines The home English of The and Global Soft Approach Skills (tm) The art of learning Lydbury English Centre is the home of The Global Approach (tm) to Language Learning. Our unique learning format provides a flexible, scalable method that helps you learn faster & more efficiently, and delivers targeted, effective results. Our three-tier method gives you the tools to learn smarter. Because learning shouldn t stop when you leave the training room. A simpler, quicker way to learn We understand. You re busy. You need to learn, but when you leave Lydbury, you may not have the time to study or attend classes regularly. Our learning system is designed with simplicity at its core, and is scalable from the most basic grammatical structures through to the most complex communication. It will enable you to continue learning and improving your English even when you return to your every day work environment. Infinite possibilities Once you ve used the GlobalApproach system, you can apply it to any process that involves knowledge acquisition. Learn to recognise patterns that help you learn, and let our system do the hard work for you! What is the GlobalApproach? Language teaching in essence has not changed in the last 50 or more years. There have been a variety of different insights, resulting in hefty swings of the pendulum from grammar to no grammar and back again, but the paradigm of deconstructed input persists. There is an enormous gulf between the way that we are designed as human beings to learn to communicate through language, and the way in which it is formally taught. We will introduce you to the concept behind the Global Approach to language learning, which turns the old paradigm on its head. Drawing on Rita s more than 40 years of language teaching, and her observations of language acquisition by her four children and grandchildren, she has designed a set of tools which enables teachers and learners to see languages as systemic entities. You will be amazed how powerful this is. Further information on The Global Approach is available on the website at http:// http://www.theglobalapproach.co.uk/ or come to Lydbury English Centre and find out for yourself.

Key Advantages Busines English and Soft Skills 1 Lydbury English Centre is a small, residential English language centre. We specialise in English and communication skills for business and professional purposes. 2 You are guaranteed personal attention. Your course will be designed for your specific training needs and for your personal learning style. We work in a combination of one-to-one and small group (max 4) with a maximum of 6 students in the whole centre. 3 We tailor your programme to your specific needs: for example, from preparing a particular presentation or negotiation to updating your CV or resumé. 4 We offer a tranquil village location - ideal for studying. You will meet English speaking people outside the centre and like-minded professionals in the centre itself. Many say this is one of the major advantages of Lydbury English Centre. 5 Established in 1985, we have wide-ranging experience in training personnel from both large multinational and small private companies as well as individual professional people. 6 We try to contact you by email or by telephone before you arrive. This, combined with the pre-programme questionnaire and daily and weekly student feedback, ensures that your course programme remains entirely tailored to your individual needs. 7 We only employ qualified trainers with experience and awareness of business and other cultures as well as knowledge of at least one other language. 8 We have developed a unique system of language training called The GlobalApproach. It consists of a set of simple frameworks which help you to understand easily and rapidly how English is constructed. These give you a solid basis for improving your English. 9 You are immersed in English from morning till evening, including lunch and dinner times. You do not waste any time travelling to and from the Centre. All accommodation is on site or within a few minutes walk. Our food is superb! 10 You can use our extensive training resources all week, including evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. Your bedroom is equipped for study and our garden room and the garden and sauna are there for times of relaxation. 11 We provide full office facilities - fax, telephone, email, internet connection - which are necessary if you need to keep in direct contact with your family and colleagues at work. 12 We give advice and assistance for travel arrangements and hotel bookings and offer a personal reception service at Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool airports or other points of arrival in the UK. 13 You can have shared use of our student car if you wish to visit local towns and places of interest or explore the beautiful Shropshire countryside at weekends. Terms and conditions apply. 14 We train you in techniques which will help you to become an effective learner and continue improving your English after your course finishes. 15 We provide a personalised report with an overall level based on the Common European Framework (CEF), together with recommendations for your future goals and how to achieve them. 16 BULATS - we can offer you the online BULATS test from Cambridge ESOL for a small extra charge. This gives you an independent and authoritative assessment of your language level on the CEFR and a certificate which is yours to present to a current or prospective employer. 17 We offer a comprehensive follow up package comprising 1 hour trainer s time by email or 2 x 20 minute calls by VOIP or telephone. Priced at 65, the first package is offered to students free of charge if used within 3 months of leaving Lydbury English Centre. Please contact us for further information via our website or by email at info@lydbury.co.uk

Choosing your course... Busines English and Soft Skills The choice of course really depends on various factors: The time you have available Your learning needs Your preferred learning style Your budget We normally find that two weeks on the Balanced Combination Course programme is most effective. You have a full 54 hours of direct contact trainer time as well as informal time with the owners, your fellow students, your trainers and friendly local residents. You have a full weekend at Lydbury when you can explore the area, towns and coast with your colleagues and enjoy using English in a natural environment. We do realise that some people can only spend one week here, so we intentionally build in free time to allow you these opportunities and enable you to assess, for yourself, the progress you are making in English. Some people prefer to work in a group and others prefer more one-to-one contact with their trainers. Some people have more general learning needs that can be most effectively covered in a group; some people have more specific or confidential needs that require a higher level of individual attention. We can cater for all these requirements at Lydbury. Beginners or low-level students should consider the one-to-one programme unless they are here for a minimum of four weeks. I only have one week to spare: For one week we also suggest the Balanced Combination Course programme. It comprises an average of 13.5 hours one to one and 13.5 hours small group (maximum 4). This enables you to concentrate on your specific learning needs whilst still having the opportunity for group discussion and negotiation - essential skills in today s work environment. If you are looking for a different type of programme, please contact us to discuss your specific needs and solution. I need more than this but only have one week: Consider adding one or two weekends to your stay. This includes a full week on one of our programmes but also offers you 8 or 10 hours one-to-one on the weekend at the beginning and/or end of your stay. Almost two weeks training for one week away from the office! We can also offer the Sunday before and the Saturday after the week s course. Please contact us for details. I have two weeks or more - what do you recommend? For most people we would recommend the Balanced Combination Course programme. This gives a very cost effective balance of group and one-to-one plus the advantages of having at least one weekend in Britain. We can also build a programme tailored to your precise needs - the choice is yours. Please let us know your requirements. I have two weeks but really need to fill my time: You might like to consider our Balanced Combination Course combined with one or more of our weekend programmes. Please ask us to quote for your specific needs and remember - you can start on a Sunday and finish on a Saturday - weekends can be split. My work is highly confidential and my needs are not likely to be shared with another student: The One-to-One programme is ideal for you. This normally runs for one five-day week, but we can also run it over a weekend or even for a few days during the week. Please contact us for further options. I need to come to Lydbury but I am really very busy: You should consider one of our weekend options. The standard weekends are either the Short Weekend (8 hours) or the Long Weekend (10 hours); but further options are availbale. We can, for example, add a Friday and a Monday to your weekend. Please contact us for details. I don t even have the time to come to Lydbury for a weekend: We can work with you by phone or over the Internet. Please contact us for your possible options. I really am a beginner - can you help me? Yes, certainly. Please contact us to discuss your needs in detail. If you are here for less than 4 weeks, you should consider the one-to-one programme or a combination of one-to-one and Balanced Combination Course. I am nervous about the accommodation and the food: Our food is first class - you will go home with a new feeling about English food! We can cater for vegetarian, vegan and other diets but ask you to let us know before arriving. We have four en-suite rooms in our own accommodation. You have an ensuite shower room, kitchenette, TV, DVD player, 24 hour access to the internet and tea and coffee making facilities. We look forward to seeing you here.
