DETROIT, MI OVERVIEW Detroit is Michigan s largest city and has a 2010 population of 713,777, making it the 18th largest city in the US. The Detroit Metro Area s population is 5.2 million. Known as the Automotive Capital of the World (or the Motor City), the Detroit area is home to General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Group. The city is also wellknown as the home of the Motown sound, where many internationally known singers and musicians started their careers. The city is located in Southeast Michigan, along the Detroit River with its Riverwalk full of attractions and views of Windsor, Ontario Canada. LARGEST EMPLOYERS Detroit s (10) largest employers are the City of Detroit, Detroit Public Schools, Detroit Medical Center, Henry Ford Health System, US Government, Wayne State University, State of Michigan, Chrysler Group, St. John Providence Health System and DTE Energy. The Macomb Intermediate School District oversees the six districts. Colleges and universities with a presence in Warren include Macomb Community College, Davenport University and Central Michigan University.
